It was a carp.

Don't make fun of carp.  Where I grew up the African Americans referred to them as buglemouth bass.  ;D ;D

Carp is fatty, and can be eaten when smoked.  Being a bottom feeder, I would be concerned with pollutants, but not bioaccumulation.

I believe Eastern Europeans also  eat smoked carp.

My first wife's family were big on fishing in Midwest.

They never kept or ate carp.

I did google search and found the method most often recommended was to soak the cleaned fish in milk for 20 minutes. then rinse off and dry....

Ironically, the fish that I think have one of the least 'fishy taste' to it is called "Bangus, or otherwise known as Milkfish. Predominant in So.East Asia. Pretty bony.

I concur with everyone here that say to stay away from farmed fish. Especially salmon.

My list in order of, IMO, fish with the least fishy taste:

Dover sole, Milkfish, orange roughy and (depending on how prepared) golden Pampano.

Professional opinions on 6 to eat and 6 to avoid. Some of the 6 are on the "avoid list" because of overfishing, e. g., the orange roughy remarkably can have a lifespan extending 200 years.

I prefer fish with firm flesh:  tuna, cod, grouper, etc.  This video contrasts two similar fish in that regard (if you can understand the "English").

Yes, the bonus is at an annualized interest rate of 2.67.
But also get the regular 1.70 interest rate.
So for these first 90 days, the combined earnings rate is 4.47%

Note:  I am not saying this is a great deal for a long term investment.

However, it is about the best thing around for idle cash awaiting further long term investment.

I have already completed this investment; but if anyone knows of something better, please let me know.

Again . . . short term investment with no loss of principal possibilities.

Don't even think of BitCoin and the like.

Not too long ago, we had a windfall and wifey and I tried investing in the peer-to-peer lending craze (2015). The return was pretty nice, not great considering there's that looming possibility you can lose your capital. We did fine and had since gotten out of it.

We invested in real estate. One of the unit we got (2011) sold brand new for $465,000.00. We rented the unit out since. The comps today is at $720,000.00 - $760,000.00. The rental market rate at present is at $3,200.00-$3,600.00. We're in the higher-end since it a two-story, 3-BDS/3BA free-standing unit with 2-car garage. Total monthly payment at the current time is ($2,300.00 - P&I, PT,F&HI,HOA). My biggest regret is not being ballsy and 'over-extending' us at the time and investing in 2, not one unit in this location.

I have always had some regret I didn't buy a few cheap apartments in Kyiv back in 2004 or so.
They could be had for $20,000 - $30,000 or so.  Then, before the crash, they were selling for near $100,000.  Now, they are back down to around $60,000, which still wouldn't be such a bad gain.

The brother of a good friend of mine bought 4 newer houses in foreclosure in Los Angeles area during crash.  He had good steady income from aerospace with 30 years at same company and wife had 30 years as nurse.  Their home was debt free, so banks gave them 90% loans. Was able to quickly rent all of them out to cover P&I and other costs.  Probably close to double in value today.

I've no idea details of this particular market, but so far it seems to be fairly lucrative.

I recently caught up with one of my buddies I grew up with and when we discussed his parents, he told me that they sold all their rental units and invested their profit in acquiring two gas stations along Hwy. 15 just outside the Las Vegas proper (northbound/southbound). According to him, the return had been so good his parents regretted not doing it sooner than they did.

He is first-generation Filipino-American - born and raised. His parents are old school. Their parents bought a 3-BR home in South Bay for him, his brother, and sister to live in. They made them pay for the mortgage for a few years. They eventually sold the home and his parents divided the equity amongst the 3, which they in turn used it to buy their own homes. Today, they are all well established family groups living in the nicer neighborhood of Manhattan/Redondo Beach.

Baby steps for giant strides. When well-planned preparedness collide with opportunities.

I am having surgery to remove Gall Bladder.
Anyone interested in buying ?
It holds bile really good; in fact it won't let any escape.

Wow.  That can be painful, not releasing bile.  The good thing is the surgery is pretty non-invasive.  Three small 1/4 inch incisions and away you go.   My ex had a gall bladder attack when she was quite young.  The doctors initially thought that she was having a heart attack.   Instead, they found a huge gall stone about the size of a jawbreaker.   Removing her gall bladder only had her down for a week and she was back to normal.

Yes, good luck with the surgery.

After suffering a couple of gallstone attacks  over 10 years ago,  a GI specialist  told me I needed to have my gall bladder removed.  The attacks consisted of painful cramping that lasted several hours.  It alarmed me as my internal health had always been perfect.
.
I researched the issue and opted to forgo surgery and instead eat less fat and more fruits and fiber.  No attacks in 10 years.    I am prepared for the surgery if the attacks resume.

Somewhat the same story with me.  I had first attack in 2013, went through the tests, and was advised by surgeon to have gall bladder removed.

I decided to think about it for awhile, got the glycopyrrolate Rx which helps stop the gall bladder contractions.  That's what causes the pain when a gall stone is there that prevents bile from going out.

But the problems finally came back big time.  New tests showed my gall bladder almost completely filled with dense sludge inside with some infection.

When checking around, I was amazed to find the large number of my immediate and extended family members who have had gall bladder removed.  Some even in their 30s and 40s.

Never had "sludge."  Between that and your family history, its time for surgical removal.

Just got released from my gall bladder surgey

Was late getting started on me by 4 hours due to complications from guy two paces ahead of me.

Then my procedure also took double estimated time

Mine was heavily infected with yellow pus and some signs of gangrene

Took a lot of extra time to get all the bits and pieces found and cleaned out.

Best part was talking with and then going to sleep looking at 32 year old female anesthesiologist with flawless light olive skin, medium blonde hair, whitest white teeth you could use as a mirror, and with a huge smile.Where do they find such gals, and how are they kept hidden on a daily basis.

Anyway, I did not come out of the anesthesia properly and wasn't talking coherenty, so some concern about a mini TIA which i had had before.

So they kept me estra 3 days.  Still having a lot of trouble waulking and just noticing I have to type each word 304 times to get it right  Fingers don't go where brain directs them to go  Took me forever to type this short message and had to correct virtualy every word 2-4 time.

I wish you safe and speedy recovery. Take your time and get well.

After all, the NBA suspended the season indefinitely so you're not missing any action on the hardfloor. Rudy Gobert and Donovan 'Spiderman' Mitchell tested positive for COVID-19, and one of the officlal who refereed that game. Utah was supposed to plan Oklahoma last night, so they promptly cancelled that game upon learning of Gobert's case. As did the game between Sacramento and New Orleans since that referee was to officiate the game between them tested positive.

Major League Baseball was to have their opening day next week. Now that's all up in the air. March Madness tournament is now being played on empty arenas.

So, rest, be well. You're not missing much right now.

I know that everyone really likes to hear about other peoples illnesses and operations, so . . .

My temperature started rising 2nd night I got back home.
When it hit 102, we headed out to ER around 1 AM.

Did a lot of blood work and CAT and probably some other.

Said it was serious in that possibly some blockage of main liver drain into stomach.

Said I could get sepsis, peritonitis, liver failure and a bunch of other such.

Told my sweet wife that it was possible I could die.

Said there was only one MD in town who was certified to go down esophagus, then a mirror and camera at end could look up the liver drain tube to see if there were blockage and, if yes, a thin wire would extend up and start cleaning.  Sounds pretty unbelievable to me as an 180 degree turn involved here . . .  I didn't really hear any of this until later.

Anyway, that MD was at an another hospital in town, so they put me to sleep, started pumping me full of antibiotics, put catheter in my peter, put the big breathing apparatus down my throat and took by ambulance to second hospital and into ICU arriving around 9 am.

Then the nightmare continued as they couldn't find this one MD and my urine bladder wasn't draining.
So very painful wait for urology guy to show up.  He determined that the first catheter had been inserted incorrectly and had cut through my prostate and perhaps the balloon thingy had been blown up partially in my prostate.

So second catheter inserted with extra ports for cleaning.  They started sucking out from one port, and then pumping saline into second port.  Urine was full of blood and clots.  Had to perform that routine 30 times to finally get all the blood and clots out.
The specialist MD was finally found out of town and wouldn't come back for 2 days.
The surgical MDs here also told wife to be prepared for my death if they couldn't get infection under control or if my liver had been damaged from the incision to cut gall bladder off of the liver.

MRI showed no problems for the incision in liver and several other considerations, but HIDA scan did show that nothing could flow from liver down into stomach which verified a blockage.

After three miserable nights and days, my operation was scheduled for 1 PM.  I had not been allowed to put any food or water into my stomach for three days now because anything in stomach would stimulate liver to pump more bile into the blocked tube.

Anyway, I survived.  The Doc was able to clean out tube and placed a stent at bottom where it tapers down.  I will return in 3-4 weeks for another look-see down there and stent removal.

Meanwhile catheter still inserted so I am carrying the 'bag.'

A lot of pain at site of gall bladder and in my peter which has blood coming out to external but not into bladder, as pee is pretty clear now.

Am confident the gall bladder area pain will resolve, but I am worried big time about urinary tract infection, incontinence, etc., etc.

Anyway, just wanted to brighten your day and take your thoughts off Corona and elections.
