Cellphone Repairs - US
« on: January 24, 2013, 07:34:38 PM »
Occasionally we run into merchants and vendors that provide outstanding services that we want to share.
Here is a recent one I found.

http://www.cellulardr.com/

After doing something really stupid (taking my Motorola Droid X for a swim in the jacuzzi), I had a dead phone and was not able to resurrect it even after extensive drying it out, etc.
After doing some extensive research on line, I came across this company in Glendale, California that had a lot of offer.
They will sell replacement parts for the do-it-yourself crowd at very reasonable prices compared to other sources I checked out on line.  Their web site has most replacement parts listed with photos and prices.

In addition I ran across a You tube video that showed detailed instructions on how to disassemble the phone.  Unusual for a repair company to show you how to repair your own phone.  LOL

To make a long story short, I was unable to fix my phone after several hours of trying and went to the facility for an estimate.  The labor prices were unbelievable low.  Furthermore, even with a turn around time of only 3 days, I needed a temporary solution.  I ended up purchasing a used, but like new Droid X from them for only $139.  An additional cost of $25 was necessary to transfer all the data from the old phone to the new one.  This solved my immediate problem to keep going while my original phone was being repaired.

The cost to repair the old phone was somewhere about $30 for a new LCD screen and maybe another $35 for the labor.

My previous experience with cell phone repairs caused me to throw them away rather than repair them.  With the higher cost of the new 'smart phones' it seems to make sense to have them repaired.  I did not like waiting weeks for it to go to a shop and paying almost as much as a new one to get it fixed.

Anyone with a similar experience might want to give these guys a try.
