Mikalai Anishchanka go about your bad self. The citizens of that country love Luka, in fact they believe he'll take care of them. Which is more than we say about our leaders btw..

They don't love him, they fear him. There is a difference. But, I suspect they'd rather live with Luka than under Putin

Having spent time in Belarus, the people and Luka seem to endure a love/hate relationship. His jailing much of the opposition leadership has ensured his continued rule, but his defense of the country sometimes make him appear as a moderate.

I began writing about cracks in the relationship with Russia a few years ago and it is a very complicated mess. The "Union State" of Russia and Belarus is at this point effectively dead.

In regards to those calls from within certain Russian media for Lukashenko to hold a referendum on joining Russia, keep in mind that such things do not get published unpunished without a green light from the Kremlin.

Were the opposition to win an election in Belarus (but it will not win) it would very quickly turn towards the West. That would also bring a very quick and Ukrainian-like response from Moscow.

Russia to Start Construction On New Iranian Nuke Plant

Russia announced on Monday that it would start construction this year on a second
nuclear plant in Iran, according to regional reports.

Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation made the announcement early
on Monday, stating that it will begin building a second nuclear power plant in Iran’s
southern region later this year, according to Iran’s state-controlled Fars News Agency.

Meanwhile, an earthquake struck Monday morning near the site of Iran’s current nuclear power plant in Bushehr, near where the second plant will be built.

These camps have existed since the time of the Revolution.  This particular one is known as Artek.  It was built during Stalin's time, and after the collapse, Ukrainian "businessmen" were killing each other to take over that land.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Is this plan similar to, or an extension of, the Young Pioneers or other Soviet youth organisations?

Boethius,
Artek was not so "militarized" in the Ukrainian period, last time I was there in 2006, it was getting really run-down because of the struggle over which oligarch was to be the actual owner led to a freeze on spending for much needed repairs, but there was no military youth preparation agenda, this came with the Russian takeover, I guess pretty soon Crimean youth will be part of the Russian draft, hope they like it!  I still remember the Russian soldiers near Chersonese who guarded thier herd of goats, they must have had goat meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner every freakin day, goat meat, goat meat, goat meat, eggs and goat meat, it hasn't got much goat meat in it!

No, I know it wasn't after the collapse.  But it was in the Soviet period, from the time it was opened under Stalin, and those types of camps, with a definite military component, existed in the USSR from the time of the Revolution.

2T -if you are going to post Russian troll material(without comment) at least put in in the propaganda thread--or in this case the MH 17 thread-- where to nonsense of Russian releases is already well and truly discredited.
Once again-now another attempt to divert blame from those responsible.

Give it a rest, Jay.  While I get where you're coming from, what Bill has posted is direct news from Russia.  As this thread is called "Russian news," it could hardly be more appropriate.  While it would ALSO fit in those other threads, I can't see why you should object to it being in this one.

JayH, the reason I came back here to the forum was so that I could post news that I came
across. 75% of the reason that I left the other place was that my news posting were tossed
into a propaganda thread because the owner didn't like/agree with the content. You might
also note that I started this thread.

Before I was married and had a new baby, I could read every thread and participate in
them, however those days are gone. These days I'm lucky to post something that hasn't
been posted days earlier.

I do encourage you to post your opinion on any news that myself or others post. In the past
I used to post some of the cRaZy stuff printed in Pravda just to show some of the wild ideas
that are Kremlin approved. Here is an example

While browsing about the internet I came across this piece.   It seems that J. Kerry has been telephoning S. Lavrov from his hospital bed, regarding Syria.  Kerry is groaning about chemical weapons use by Syria yet again.  Within the article it is also stated that the 'rebels' also have 'possibly' had access to chemical weapons.

So despite of a few years of help from the USA, Assad has remained in power, and now Kerry seems to be trying to enlist Russia once again to turn on it's ally.....I wonder what would be in it for Russia if they did decide to turn on Syria?  Surely Kerry can't expect them to turn for nothing.

Kerry says 'patience wearing thin' on Syria's Assad

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Tuesday he had discussed Syria's use of chemical weapons with Russia and the international community's patience with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's behavior was wearing thin.

Speaking to reporters via video conference from Boston, Kerry said he was confident Assad's government was responsible for a "preponderance" of chemical attacks against his own people and that "everyone's patience is wearing thin."

Kerry said it was one of the issues he discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov by phone on Monday and was confident Lavrov would raise it with Assad, who.......

Everyone else is wrong bur Russia !!! problem is that the lies Russia promotes are obvious to most-but Russia persists in eating its own lies.

Russian Foreign Ministry slams Australian FM's "anti-Russian Cold War" statements

MOSCOW, June 16. /TASS/. Anti-Russian Cold War cliches heard from Canberra are a road to nowhere, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, commenting on the statements by Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop addressed to the Russian side over the Ukrainian crisis.
"Some days ago, Bishop lashed out at Russia over the Ukrainian crisis, there were accusations addressed to "separatists" in the southeast of the country who allegedly blocked the MH17 crash site last July not allowing international experts to visit the site," the ministry said.
"She cynically added that because of their support by Russia it was impossible to timely repatriate the remains and personal belongings of many Australians who were among the victims." "Canberra was allegedly forced to raise the issue during the conversation with the Russian resident on the sidelines of the Brisbane G20 events in November 2014," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Such statements by the Australian minister confirm that in the assessment of developments in Ukraine the sense of reality has not returned to politicians in Canberra toeing the line of their overseas mentors," the ministry said.
"Bishop should have remembered the details of her conversation with the Russian leader in the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Milan in October and of Putin’s conversation with Prime Minister Tony Abbot ‘on the sidelines’ of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing in November 2014."
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the efforts of the militias "made it possible to ensure the timely removal of the bodies and personal belongings of the plane crash victims and, most importantly, prevented them from being destroyed by the Ukrainian artillery." It was militias that "ensured the inviolability of the flight data recorders and handed them over to international experts.
"The duplication of anti-Russian Cold War clichйs still used in Canberra is a road to nowhere. By resorting to such remarks Bishop leads the Russian-Australian relations down a blind alley," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It seems very funny, if not almost tragic, that Russia is the cause of its own isolation.  It reminds me of a classmate I had in the fourth grade.  He was so unpopular that the entire class would unify against him.  Somehow this whole foreign policy debate with Russia over the past year reminds me of fourth grade politics.

Putin Tells Russians That It’s Their ‘Holy Duty’ to Be Patriotic
by Stepan Kravchenko

Russians bear a “holy duty” to be patriotic as the country commemorates the 74th
anniversary of Nazi Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union, President Vladimir Putin
said. “It’s our holy duty to be faithful to the great values of patriotism, to keep the
memory of our fathers’ and grandfathers’ achievements, and to honor our veterans,”
Putin said on Monday during a televised ceremony honoring cities for their sacrifices
during the war.

Washington fears losing Greece to Moscow

Throughout the prolonged showdown between Greece and its creditors, the Obama
administration has largely sat on the sidelines, issuing the occasional warning about
the potential economic impact of a default.

But with Greece now on the verge of bankruptcy, the US is also beginning to worry
about the political fallout from a deeper crisis and the potential for Russia to gain
increased influence over a Nato member.

I'd be more worried about the Chinese loaning the money to Greece than Russia.  At least they have it to lend.  Russia bailing Greece out is like the blind leading the blind.
