Lookin' t'other way
« on: December 26, 2018, 07:19:26 AM »
THREE strange things have happened in the last 3 weeks

Cyprus : 1/ I saw a guy parking badly and then the car revved - and I heard a loud clunk ...I was getting into my car to leave the car park ( 'parking lot' )

SC asked me to investigate and I was reluctant - as I heard a woman shouting and assumed she was berating the driver..

SC persisted I should investigate and when I did found the guy passed out, head back in the driver's seat and  I performed resuscitation procedures until the Ambulance arrived ....   Sadly, the guy died later that day

Cyprus: 2/ Whilst driving - alone - I saw a car in front of me swerve violently a few times and noted that a rear seat passenger was stricting something - also in the rear seat...

We were on a motorway and the car suddenly stopped .....   I went to a local police stn to report it - having got the car reg.number ( 'licence plate ?) ..Never heard another thing

Russia: 3/ SC has just called - upset - she was a few metres from our home in a residential one way street in Sochi and at one point the pavement is narrow and a guy shoulder-barged her into the hedge ....No-one stopped to help  - though many would have seen ..

Russians - apparently  - don't WANT to get involved lest the police involve THEM in any subsequent prosecution ?

What would YOU do if you saw the same ?

I would have performed CPR, having said that 2 friends had to have counselling after giving CPR at an RTA to a head trauma woman with AIDS and several friends have got involved in unknow domestics and had both parties turn on them.  AS to your gf I would have helped her up while keeping an eye on the guy making sure he left the scene.  I've had too many drugged up or mental people square up to me to encourage a confrontation

You can’t have done a very good job. 😂
Mind you, the prospect of mouth to mouth with Moby would be enough to make one kick the bucket.

Actually moby and sc should think about counselling those were traumatic events.  Hope you relax and don't have too many flashbacks.

Best to look around and see if there is a defibrillator around to use. CPR only has around a 3-5 ish precent chance of working. That goes up to around 70 percent chance or so with a defib. If you're at the Airport there's a fair chance one may be around. So one could do CPR while other looks for one.

Never mind then, just so long as you gave an impressive thump on the chest of the guy to impress any passers by as to your CPR prowess ;D

I believe he posted his ignore function isn’t working. Not the first poster to post this, although when I’ve tested it, I’ve had no issues.

This post was composed without the aid of google.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Do you use Chrome as a browser ?  It works 1 time in 10 for me ..

I wouldn't put trench on ignore as his advice is dangerous

The person just added to that status post nothing that adds value and mostly has period pains whereby he'll follow a 'victim' around for a while - before getting 'bored' of 'busting' them ;)

Yes, I use chrome, and every test I've done using the ignore function works.  You could just scroll by the posts of those with whom you do not wish to engage. ;)

You’re the biggest troll going across two fora (that I know of).

What value do you see in that?

It's not a question of not wanting to engage - rather simply not wanting to see said posts posts at all :)

I use Chrome - but in Linux

It's rather bizarre problem... Don't get it on other SM forums

that’s nothin...
these two friends of mine went camping together in Arizona
one of them was “relieving himself” and after he lowered his pants and was squatting down
he was bitten on the buttocks by a rattlesnake
his friend didn’t know what to do
so he got out his phone and called a doctor
the doctor told him to “suck the poison out”
so he hung up the phone
his friend asked him, “well damn it man, what’d the doctor say”!
he replied, “that your’re gonna die man, sorry...”

The majority of Londoners would do nothing society has reached the point where it's the minority of civilians who help.  Even the emergency service personnel get abused for getting in the way of the public while helping.

Around 25 years ago I was living in Wickford,Essex with my then partner.

She used to like taking a 15 minute walk to the local train station to catch the 7-30 am to London for work.

One morning she passed out for no reason 5 minutes walk from the station and lay on the ground for 25 minutes..not one person tried to help her..they left her lying there on the pavement.

She knew many people on that short walk...dog-walkers,joggers,fellow commuters, and they always exchanged morning greetings..yet not one of them could be arsed to check if she was ok.

I find people in the UK in general to be as James and Trench find them.

I'm not sure how much that says for UK society 25 years ago or now. I'm not doubting your story - and I live up North - but I still find it hard to believe - assuming your partner did not look drunk or homeless and was dressed as if she were going to work - that not one person stopped to help in a full 25 minutes. I suppose it would have depended on foot flow and the demographic of people in that specific time and place. Just this morning I went for a walk and stopped to help a chap and his young boy push their car up hill for a considerable distance.

Nevertheless, it is why I asked Trench what he would do. His answer, he wouldn't know until it happened. He didn't say he would at least muck in and try, irrespective of the medical know-how that might required. I suspect he would have looked t'other way and carried on walking...in which case you may all be correct about where we are as a society.

Sitting in my private plated blacked out 4x4 at traffic lights i watched a guy on crutches cross the road .  Luckily I was playing attention when he collapsed or I would have run over him.  Got out and checked him over helped him up with the only other man of 50 an Irishman.  Only to screamed at by other road users for blocking the road.  Another occasion Tried to unsucessful get an 18 year old girl from under a bus with people winding down their windows to yell at us for getting in their way.  London
