How did you propose?
« on: March 23, 2006, 10:16:15 PM »
I have enjoyed the discussion in the married section about how everyone got married.  There seems to be some interesting tales there.  Some were simple and some more elaborate.   Does anyone have any good tales of how you proposed to your bride or your bride to be?

Well, I wish it were more romantic, but we just sort of agreed to get married very early in our relationship, during the first trip.  I officially proposed - during a big dinner with her family - where I asked her father for permission to marry his daughter :).  Her father responded "No, she is my only daughter and Mother of my only Grand-daughter."  Her Mother said "No one asked me about my opinion or permission!".  They were not anxious to see my wife and step daughter go all the way to America.

Losing steam, I  then asked her brother, who said "Yes, please take her away from here ;)."

It was all in good fun, the issue was decided already, but in every joke there is a dose of reality and in this joke was a bigger-than-usual level of truth.

BTW, everything is great now between her parents and I, they wish us all the happiness.:)

That is a nice story Voyager.  I enjoyed it.   I sort of felt like when Luda and I made our decisions it was about as unromantic as you could get.  We had met one time and were sending messages back and forth and both of us were talking about being in love and wanting to be togeter always.   I e-mailed her that I had planned to bring the K-1 paperwork with me on my next visit but if we started it now we could save a month.  She send send the paperwork.   I sure can't call it romantic.

I would like it much better if I find a gal I want to be with forever if I can do ask in a more traditional way and a more romantic way.  I guess part of the reason for the question was to get some ideas in case the right girl and right moment ever do come along.

Turbo,

Having proposed before, successfully, the moment can come at any time. Once it was in my first wifes apartment. I just slipped down on one knee, took out the ring and popped the question. Even though we had actually shopped for the ring and she sorta know what is was going to be, it was still a shocker. Second time around, it was just some casual talk on the street, I asked if she would like to get married, she said yes, we kissed and bought a ring a few days later. You never know.

The romantical fantasys of the candle lit dinners are nice and if you make it happen thats great, but not necessary. Putting the ring on her finger is the magic moment. You can do it in Red Square, but only if she is not easily embarressed.

When the damn thing is burning a hole in your pocket and you just cannot deal anymore, then do it!

I didn't do anything romantic.

I had told Angel Eyes at least a hundred times that she was
going to fall madly in love with me, then we were going to
get married and live happily ever after.

So, when I actually asked her it was already a done deal.
When Smiley Girl found out that was the big deal. She was
very excited.
