It is.

The Ukrainian verb ГОПАТИ (1st syllable stressed :) ) means: to stamp ones feet while jumping or dancing   :)

Marina and I saw the Eagles a couple of years ago at the Bank Atlantic Center (Sunrise, FL).
They were good.
Almost as good as back in the 70's.  ;D
She liked "Hotel California" a lot.
I liked this little ditty:

Apparently it is a very old song, dating back to 1847: http://www.shansonprofi.ru/archiv/notes/paper134/

The late Anna German also participated in 1967 to the Festival di Napoli with this:

Adriano Celentano (born 6th January, 1938 in Milan) was an apprentice watch repairman when struck by the R'n'R fever in the mid 1950s. He started recording US songs (Rip It Up, Jailhouse Rock, Tutti Frutti, Blueberry Hill, etc.) in 1958 and imitated Elvis Presley's stage motions, thus acquiring the nickname of il molleggiato (the springy guy). He became nationally acclaimed after participating in the 1961 Festival di Sanremo with 24000 Baci:

Being the only one here who'd remember that era?
I hope not ;). IMO, the 1930s-1940s saw some of the best US music ever, witness to the fact that they were recorded again and again, like Poinciana was, by many artists in later years and became 'standards'.  A small selection of Poinciana performers ;D:

love it love it love it. Danced to it tonight.
There are shortcuts to happiness and dancing is one of them.

I do resent the fact that most people never question or think for themselves. I don't want to be normal. I just want to find some other people that are odd in the same ways that I am. OP.

Tonight I attended a choir concert at Sant'Ambrogio, one of Milan's oldest churches - originally built by our patron St. Ambrose in 379-386 AD and assuming its current appearance in the 12th Century, when it was rebuilt in the Romanesque style.:

Milan's Basilica of St. Ambrose

The concert 2-part program was entitled "Music from Western and Eastern Churches" and its 2nd, Eastern part included some fine pieces I had never heard before, like this one by Bulgarian Добри Христов (1875–1941):

IIRC, the solo tenor's part is the officiating priest's in the lithurgy.

By S. Rachmaninoff (Ave Maria):

And, somewhat surprising, another Ave Maria by I. Stravinsky (2nd here):

Sergei Rachmaninoff's Всенощное бдѣніе (Op. 37, 1915)

I looked a bit more into Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil, usually translated as Vespers, a collection of 15 pieces: numbers 1-6 contain settings from the Russian Orthodox Vespers service (Вечерня), numbers 7-14 settings from Matins (Утреня), and number 15 from The First Hour or Prime (Первый час).

It contains some incredibly beautiful choral music (1h 5' ;)), here performed in 1965 by Гос. Академ. Русский Хор СССР:

"Beethoven Chez Mozart"

From a painting by H. Merle, engraved in 1858 by Alfred Chardon, Paris

According to reminiscences, Beethoven was taken in 1787 to visit to Mozart, who requested that the fortepianist play something for him. Mozart, assuming that what Beethoven had played was a carefully prepared show-piece, praised it in a somewhat cool manner. Beethoven, observing Mozart’s tone, begged Mozart for a theme on which to improvise, one of Beethoven’s greatest musical gifts. Beethoven improvised in such a style that Mozart, who paid more and more attention and interest as Beethoven proceeded, finally went to some friends in the adjoining room and excitedly exclaimed, “Keep your eyes on him. Some day he will give the world something to talk about.”

Tangentially related to this thread. The above engraving of a 17 y.o. Beethoven playing at Mozart's in 1787 had been hanging at my grandfather's ever since I can remember, and later at my aunt's.

Given its huge dimensions (IIRC, about 1m x 1.2m), I could not carry the framed print on my car back to Milan when I finished sorting stuff from my deceased aunt's flat on Lake Maggiore. I cut the print out of its heavy, ornate gilded frame, rolled it intending to have it re-framed more soberly, and stupidly forgot to take it back home.

I revisited the flat a couple of years  later and the new owner told me she had thrown away all the 'old stuff' I had left behind, since I had not called for a long time and she had assumed I was no longer interested in it :(.

Fortunately, I have not discovered how much it might be worth, and intend NOT to :D.

Gustav Mahler
(1860–1911)

I'm not overly fond of Mahler, but tonight I heard this seldom-played piece of his, Blumine (flower piece), initially included in his Symphony No.1 but discarded after its 3rd performance in 1894.

THAT IS SO SAD....

I think I would've died of disappointment.
