In case some of you newbies don't know her, Mama D is an extremely sweet lady who has a Russian daughter in law and is very helpful to everyone. She is sometimes the voice of reason we need to calm us down in a turbulent discussion. She has personally helped me out by giving very good advice in a difficult situation.

I am somewhat new to the forum and it eludes me why you would wish to post here.  However, I like your posts, especially the last one AM chasing RW.

Your photo says you are happily married, otherwise I would think you are trying to attract one of the senior men here at RWD.

MamaD (Dottie) has been posting on RW-related fora for a VERY, VERY long time. I first read, and admired, her posts on the old Russian-Womens-List (St. Johns List) - probably in 1999 or so.

She has privileged us with stories of her son, his wife (RW), and their son (Dottie's grandson). She also tore our hearts out with the story of her granddaughter's drowning last summer.

Dottie inspires, uplifts, challenges, and is a vibrant part of our 'fabric' at RWD.

Gator.....
I have been married to that good looking guy 58 years come June 11....

We have been best friends...and sometimes have had to remind each other of that fact. We have raised our two sons and a few of our Heart.....

AND..........I have the most wonderful Russian born daughter and grandson...

One of the first email cards this morning came from Yekaterinburg, Russia.....My sons Russian mom! Basil's babushka, I am Granny because I don't pronounce bsbushka properly :cluebat:You see we have worked to bridge the the miles, half a word away.... And share a special pride in our collective family.

When I realized I might have a Russian lady as a daughter.....I began to read Russia Today, to learn as much about this country that few of us knew anything about.My heart broke when a young boy posted "I am sure I will die if I have to stay here and can not return to Mother Russia". I made up my mind to do everything in my power to let my new family how much we cared..... Last summer I was held in Basils arms, as he whispered, Granny I am so sorry.....

I was in my early 20's, when I stood on the deck of a military transport ship, as it sailed out of New York harbor. I asked myself what have you done? I had a two year old and six month old child on my hip..... I know well the fear of leaving all you have ever known...and the homesickness that sweeps through you from time to time.

Both our children have married ladies from another country... and what a joy they have brought.

At Thanksgiving two years ago Basil help up his new American passport and said this is my blessing this year.

There are internet connected Computers in each of the families flats and constant communication.

While Basil attended public school here, learning English and new ways ...his mother was home schooling him in Russian subjects.

And her dedication shows.

It all takes patience and loads of love and caring... and for my family it has worked......
