I am sorry... it might be another one of those nights.  Sigh...

And this one has always struck me as meaningful.  Even in my late teens I knew the meaning was deeper than the obvious.  ;)

And Alice had a persona that was cool.  A game played with the audience to make a show, and at times convey a message.  But he was not the best golfer (though he asked to play past me and my high school friends, and we let him.  We were far worse, and in awe of him).  But the words were cool, even if a bit repetitious within any one song.  Kind of like Zappa meets Rocky Horror, with a bit of bizarre humor and theatrics thrown in.  Like 'Rocky' and 'Zappa' weren't enough bizarre antics and humor.  But Alice was always one of my favorites.  The "Goes to Hell" album is my favorite of his works.

Seeker did you notice anything strange about Greg Lake? Looks like he put on a few hundred pounds. It is interesting to see how the rock stars age. I was a big fan of Emitt Rhodes in 1970. You wouldn't recognize him now. Of course look at Keith Richards, he has looked like he was dying for the past 25 years. Too much heroin and too many blood transfusions.

Yeah, hitting 50 this year, I have learned to not notice certain things in the present that might distort or remind me of how old I am based on my memories.   ;D  But I still can identify with the words no matter how old they are, or how old I am.  And the Stones were always too wasted for me after "Some Girls"...  Not in a drug induced way.  Just less relevant.  But hey, I was young.  What did I know?

Listen to the whole song.  The first part just sets the mood for the rest of it.   8)

Okay...

Some more meaningful songs.

and

and again...

And this one explains me a bit....

But this one even more, even though it is just a continuation of the previous...

So be afraid... very afraid... This is where I come from.  :P

Well, undoubtedly this guy is the one that got me started with the 6-stringer. My all time favorite, . I'm stoked this guy is still touring.

Unto . Good friends with JT.

These days, tunes I gravitate to are by this guy's music whose first album, Gravitate, which I accidentally stumbled upon in a place called Napintha along the coast of Big Sur on that beautiful summer day of 1997; Canada's son

He's splitting time with Hawaii's own .

Opppss. I can't group those guys without giving props to my man ; Contemporary Island sounds and all, yah know.

Another good guy that's not getting too much exposure is an Irish lad I saw play in my smalltown guitar club, , shown here messing being Windy and warm. Chet Atkins prodigy.

Guilty pleasure, why not, eh?...

THE CABO VERDE MORNA
Quote
The islands of the Cape Verde archipelago were discovered by Italian and Portuguese navigators around 1460. According to Portuguese official records, the first discoveries were made by Genoese-born Antonio de Noli, who was also the first appointed governor of Cape Verde by Portuguese King Afonso V. Other navigators mentioned as contributing with discoveries in the Cape Verde archipelago are Diogo Gomes, Diogo Dias, Diogo Afonso and the Italian Alvise Cadamosto.

Before the arrival of Europeans, the Cape Verde Islands were uninhabited. In 1462, Portuguese settlers arrived at Santiago and founded a settlement they called Ribeira Grande (now called Cidade Velha, to avoid being confused with the town of Ribeira Grande on the Santo Antão island). Ribeira Grande was the first permanent European settlement in the tropics

The morna is Cape Verde's 'blues', obviously influenced by the Portuguese fado as well as by Brazilian samba. Barefoot Cesária Évora is its best-known singer.

There are a few contemporary music that has become both legendary and eternal. Examples of these are that of the song 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and the legendary Louis Armstrong's .

While music such as these stand the test of time on it's own merit, when fused together as more than samplings in a medley, they spring a totally new seperate life eternal unto itself, as the late 's rendition. Towards the end of this video, they showed the traditional Samoan burial ritual when they laid him to rest, all 500 pounds of him.  :(

Shosty will admit to at times subscribing to the formula that negates the value of music because it is popular.  Growing up, I neglected the likes of J.T., who really is an fine artist.  This evokes an older America:

Likewise to the above, if one cuts through the leafy haze, there are many strongly evocative pieces from Neil Young:

One could go on.  The film 'O Brother where art thou',  directed by the Coen Bros., is accompanied by a sound track that offers a nice introduction to American roots music.  Here is Allison Krauss and Gillian Welch

My favorite "band" of the late 60's was called simply, The Band. I last saw them in 1995 just a few
years before Rick Danko passed away. The Band never sought superstardom - they were heavily
rooted in what I call "North Americana" (4 of its members were Canadian.) The sole USA member,
Levon Helm, sang on a few of their bigger hits - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, and The Weight,
but this one's my favorite...

I agree.  Phil is okay... even good at times, but Peter had the twisted mind that I kind of like.  Talent and vision will beat just talent anytime.  That is why The Doors were nothing without Jim even though they were very talented as individuals.  They lost the visionary of the group.

I saw Phil Collins in a very small venue in Ann Arbor (about the size of a movie theater).  He was touring with Earth, Wind & Fire as his back up band.  FANTASTIC!  You could feel the music boucing off your chest!

Funny story about that night is that I saw Bob Seager rumaging through a trash can as he had thrown his ticket away and they wouldn't let him in!  LMAO.
