So many beautiful children. Dan, you have a beautiful daughter and beautiful wife. You look very much like my neighbor, Harold. Well, Harold did ok too. Last I heard he was a financial manager at a Toyota dealership in Texas.

Is it really possible for a child from the FSU to be an honor roll student with a language barrier?

Yes, my daughter struggled the first couple of years while she was learning English. She started in the fourth grade and by the end of seventh grade the school sent a letter that she is no longer considered an English learner.  Starting with the seventh grade she has had a GPA of no lower than 4.0.  Of course this was about the time I was no longer able to help with homework :).  She finished her sophomore year with a 4.25 GPA with all honors classes.  Her junior year just started and she is eagerly waiting her first progress report to ensure she is still on track because the junior year numbers are what university admissions folks will look at when she pursues her degree.

YES...YES.....AGAIN     YES! ! !

Basil came here at age eleven.....They put him in ESL Classes....one little Russian kid with all those Mexican kids....Result... one little Russian kid learns little English, but a fair amount of Mexican!

Next semester. my son insisted he be mainstreamed. He read Russian books online and did well in math (very well) since math is International....Teacher complained he always had his nose in a book....but did well in math and science! Mother teaching him all Russian studies he would be taking in Russia thanks to internet and suitcases of books)... Spending three hours at the piano...

Seventh grade, the Middle school has it's first Math competitive team... ( Russian two, Chinese one,Korean one and a couple of Mexican kids. Only one American kid!) They went to State and took second place..Thank You.

Next year added a Science team... same kids, plus a few more joined... Dick & Irena are the pushers....Teachers are getting interested, when the kids are competing and coming home in the top three!    Then they added debate..... Did you know that kids are able to think in two languages? They are all very good in English now, and tore the compitition up !

Meanwhile, Basil is still being tutored in Russian studies at home. And read 90 books in Russian and English and did reports on them....including "War and Peace". I still wonder about how that teacher reacted to that one.

Summer came and he wanted to take a summer class at the local Jr. Collage...." Can't be done,     but if he can pass the entrance exam maybe"  ...."OK what time?"
He was there and took the test and did well. Took the Philosophy class and got an "A",   Instructor shakes his head and says..."Man, can that kid write"

Returns to old school in Russia and the kids don't know where he has been... but America? NO WAY.... But there is something different........

Then it came time to move into High School.... There is a school here, where the kids that plan to take The International Bacculuret Honors classes go. They are bussed, and this results in the fact that they lose out on after school things, like sports and club activities. So, the parents have to make up for this lose.

Basil has an American sister, that is also a High School Math teacher.... She is helpful in finding enrichment activities online.

Well, he is still studying Russian studies, Working on his music, ( took gold medals three years in his class of Classical Piano, with a Russian teacher) and holding a 4.+ average in American High school......

Spending summers at ... the  Jr. Collage and the Colorado School of Mines having moved up to Math classes and research teams........

He was accepted by 8 major universities in the Physics, Math and Science fields.. and Carnige-Mellon!  He chose Stanford and has just returned for his second year........ He will be 19 in November.

PROUD OF THIS KID... :)...You bet I am,  and of my other grandkids.... :)
The Math teacher is now a Capt. in the USAF....in intelligence, Her brother is a Marine recruiter ( twice to Iraq, and caught shapnel) The others are still too young to see where they are going....

As you know, we lost the one we raised, two years ago but she was a raising star.

But none of them has worked as hard to get where they are today, as my Russian born grandson.
May those that love us, love us.
And those that don't love us,May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,May He turn their ankles,
So we will know them by their limping.

God put your arm about my shoulder... and your hand over my MOUTH!

Not much sleep around here.  Recovery time is when the little girl is asleep, which is between feedings.

The old dog, almost deaf, takes great interest in the little girl, staying by her in whatever room she is in.

The babies sharp loud high cries, unfortunately for dog, are in a range the dog can hear!  So as you can see, the dog sleeps when baby sleeps. ;D

These days will soon pass....and so will the coming months and years.

Saver them while they are here ... for the day will come much to soon when you will fervently wish you could hold .....Just one short moment in your hands.

These are truly gifts from God... Entrusted to us for a short while.

The goal is to have one a little bit  naughty....but not too naughty! An angel in training ... but still a child of this life.....and ours to ho;d and hug....

And one day they will leave with a smile and a wave.....and your heart will forever go with them. May they be strong mature adults contributing to society and their world.

One of the sweetest moments in life, is to rock a sleeping child and feel the warmth of love shared.....

Mamma D  :)
