I liked your structure
« on: October 06, 2007, 12:30:15 PM »
I have received quite a number of letters where a lady wrote to me "I liked your structure"
I kinda think that they used an electric translator or a dictionary to translate some Russian
word of phrase incorrectly.

Does anyone know what it means?

Thank you,

Bill

I have received this a few times as well.

I always assumed structure was equivalent to profile, meaning she liked your profile (pictures, self description, etc).
Probably one of those translation things - words with multiple meanings maybe.

(I hope it's ok to answer, considering I'm not a RW  ;D)

Bill, when you're faced with this sort of linguistic oddities, have a look at our Russglish Glossary (http://russianwomendiscussion.com/wiki/index.php?Russglish%20Glossary).

My assumption would be that she meant your physical structure, the frame, and likes the way you are naturally built. Sometimes I come across this interpretation in dictionaries that are made in Russia.

However, in case of doubt, it would be always better to ask her to specify what she actually meant. People can have their unique way to express themselves that others never know.

As a Russian speaking person, I would hardly think of 'structure' as a site profile. However, Bill's counterpart may gave different thinking.

Sandro, where does your interpretation in Russglish come from, I wonder? I am not insisting on me being correct, though....

I suppose it could depend on the context in which it was used, however...

I sometimes get a letter that says something like: "I found your structure on the site of acquaintances" or "I was on the site of acquaintances and found your structure"
(I get the site of acquaintances line a lot too)

So, in the context that I have seen it, it seems clear that it is meant to mean profile. I was thinking that maybe the Russian word for profile might translate as structure if using an online or computer translator, so I ran it through a few online translation sites...

The Russian word for Profile, "Профиль", and the word for Structure, "Структура", can both translate to English as "Structure" depending on the software. PROMPT and ImTranslator both translate "Профиль" as "Structure", only Alta Vista translates it as "Profile".

I think this is just a sign of the limitations of computer translation software. I am confident that when a Russian girl says she likes your structure it is meant to be profile.

Agree, the best would be just to ask herself.

Sandro, where does your interpretation in Russglish come from, I wonder?
Lily, as Majestic pointed out, my interpretation is based on context: whenever I encountered "structure" in FSUW mail, it made sense only when equated to "profile" info (as for instance "survey", another mis-use). This also applies to the other bloopers in the Russglish Glossary ;).

My assumption would be that she meant your physical structure, the frame, and likes the way you are naturally built. Sometimes I come across this interpretation in dictionaries that are made in Russia.
"Physical structure" is an expression mostly used in a medical/anatomical context, in common parlance "body build" would normally replace it.

Agree, the best would be just to ask herself.

I am sure it would but it came from someone who I am not interested in and her English is not
very good. I don't want to ask her to spend her time translating and explaining when I am not interested. I have been told this a number of times and was fairly sure that it ment that she liked my photos or build. I was also fairly sure that someone here would be able to tell me.

Take care,

Bill

A quote from a WM dating site member on a forum about him receiving letters from RW:

'I get them alot on another dating site pretending to be someone, I just delete them, the Russians start out with "Anylizing your structure" and finding it nice.'
