Does your bank card work in Russia online?
« on: July 06, 2018, 04:46:04 AM »
Bank in the Summer of 2016 - I had some issues with not being able to pay for stuff online with UK bank cards

Eventually, it resolved itself

Now, I'm unable to pay for our home internet, mobile phones, top up Yandex money, order from ulmart.ru, etc.,

Having done a mini survey of ex-pats, I'm wondering if other nations are having the same issue ?

is the problem card related or the location of your ip address?

forgive me for asking but why wouldn't you have a local bank account and card just for this?
your GF should already have this...

I don't know Russian rules, but "back in the day"  I had several Ukraine bank accounts in multiple currencies with cards
all you needed was a tax ID number

We DO have local accounts - but I had a rant about Raiffeisen - as their 'financial monitoring' dept queried all the monies coming from the Uk - we explained it and they ignored it and blocked the account !

I do not earn money in Russia and don't want tax issues - hence best to send the money from abroad

everyone "abroad" has bank issues!!

with the caveat that I don't know Russian banking rules, etc
couldn't you just use your GF's card for some things?

when I got a Ukrainian Tax ID it didn't open me up to taxation
just allowed me to open accounts in UKR banks

could deposit cash or wire from abroad to UKR bank account
really was very little hassle

from the sound of it though it's an IP location issue
I had this issue even yrs ago when I lived in Ukraine
so I rerouted my web pages through a US ip address
and problem solved

You already asked this Q and I responded - YES - but then SHE gets asked to explain why / where all this money is coming from !

could deposit cash or wire from abroad to UKR bank account

Now, I must send her the money to a UK account  and she 'recovers' any bills paid by withdrawing cash - using said UK card - the issue is only online ..

I feel like I'm having to address an inattentive, naughty Teletubby ..   No - owe.... ;)   ...  it is NOT an IP issue..

it's the drugs man, sorry...

i'm tryin to relate based on my own experience in Ukraine

my banking was complicated
Isle of Man HSBC accounts in Euros and Sterling
Bank of America Accounts
Local Ukraine Bank Accounts

once, I set everything up with wire transfers
and routed my IP through the USA
I never had a single problem even making on-line purchases from Sevastopol with American card!!
HSBC used to have a fingerprint verification thingy that was cool!

What does your wife think about your GF

1/ is this pertinent to the thread?

2/ If I knew would I 'share' on here?

3/ I wondered what someone who hasn't been to Russia in an age would be offering to this thread and you succeeded in demonstrating......

nothing...

It's a joke
