Man, you guys get all the good shows! Are they as good 'live' as they are recorded?

Yes they are, they were excellent. I had prior never even heard of Rockapella that I remember. Our local community center does an outstanding job of bringing entertainment to town even 4-5 Broadway shows a year and big name musical entertainment about as much.

On the same note, my wife and I went to Branson, MO several weeks ago and saw one show "6" which is 6 brothers who do Rockapella style too. It was a very good show as well but, the wife said she enjoyed the Rockapella show better. I thought ^ was better but, they played more of my particular style jams. Nary an instrument

To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783

The cello is a deliciously haunting sexy instrument.

I remember promising myself I would marry the first cute cellist I meet. My wife is a tall, natural strawberry blonde with curly locks and wish she would let her hair grow long and let it flow...then learn to play cello...yup - that's all I want for Christmas!

..sadly, she's learning the piano. It's sexy, too...but nothing like the cello.  :P

Beautiful piece of music, Muzh.

Here's another of this style for the mood.

An interesting string group from Northern Italy that likes to digress into popular music from the world over, e.g. morna from Capo Verde:

The first time I heard the song I was startled.

Was that really Conway Twitty, and was he singing in Russian?

Hello Darlin' in Russian?

Turns out it was Conway Twitty and he was singing back in 1975 as part of the space program. The song Hello Darlin' was recorded in Russian as a goodwill gesture to Soviet astronauts.

July 17, 1975, was the date and it was broadcast to a worldwide audience as part of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. Called Привет  Радость or "Privet Radost," the song - commissioned by the Apollo crew - was played by the American astronauts to Russian cosmonauts (of the Soyuz crew) as "a gesture of goodwill."

Twitty worked with a language professor from the University of Oklahoma to record the phonetic Russian version of the song.

I'll withhold any personal thoughts on the translation and Conway's mastery of the words as perhaps the Russian forum members might have different thoughts on his performance.

Hats off to him, it sure was a surprise to me!

As Christmas approaches, I thought I'd post some Christmas songs.  This first one is more of a New Year song in Ukraine, but it is associated with Christmas in the West.

This makes me nostalgic for a time when I used to disbelieve the better half's assertion that George Michael is gay.  A little sappy, but I like it nevertheless.

I like this version of White Christmas as much as Bing Crosby's version

Very pleasant to hear, but pity it's a bit of a 'fake', i.e. those musicians were all too often busy looking at the printed scores in front of them ::).

IINM, jazz and blues are meant to be based mostly on improvisation, which actually was a result of most their black players being formally 'music-unschooled' ;).

A parallel may be seen in much Brazilian music: look at at their scores, many feature very unusual chord sequences that are initially puzzling until you work them out on a guitar: transported, 'illiterate' fingerings that sound somewhat incomplete, not unlike what Debussy and Ravel wrote much earlier ;).
