Surveillance in Russia
« on: September 25, 2019, 03:36:22 PM »
Data breach shows extent of internal surveillance in Russia.

He described SORM as “bulk wiretapping.”“Only the FSB knows what they collect,” he said. “There is no third-party scrutiny.
You should assume ALL landline, cellphone, messaging, and internet is monitored.

yes, my phone was tapped once!
I was telling the "tapeworm" joke in Russian (it is REALLY funny!!) on the phone...
and when I told my friend the punchline, the FSB officer listening in, was laughing HARD for half a second before cutting his line...

now we all use Android phones that have built-in encryption for all forms of communication in Russia that's militsa proof

this past August, I was in an arts supply store in Moscow
when all of a sudden a bunch of protesters came in
two FSB officers came out of no where and directed the customers out the back
from then I had an "escort"

you HAVE to have protection in Russia!
there is literally no other way
you are just too vulnerable in Russia
because there is NO RULE OF LAW
the COURTS ARE  ONE OF THE MOST CORRUPT PARTS OF THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT!
because anyone with a direct GRU or FSB contact can pull all the banking and real estate records on ANYONE in Russia for a $200 bribe

All ISPs had this FSB kit installed and I seriously doubt even the FSB are interested in spending time putting someone to listen to your calls / conversations /email.

Russia Will Test Its Ability to Disconnect from the Internet
“The Russian government, particularly since seeing the role social media
played in the Arab Spring, has wanted over the last decade to exert tight
control over the online information space within Russia’s borders,” said
Justin Sherman, a cybersecurity policy fellow at New America who studies
internet governance and digital authoritarianism.

“Free information flows are a threat to regime stability, and they need to
be controlled, the narrative goes.”

The FSB have fitted kit in all ISPs, LinkedIn blocked, Telegram blocked

You are right to point these things out as in other places it might be suggested you are 'psranoid or that it is 'as.bad' in your country.

It is NOT in UK, US, Canada, 'Oz, NZ, FR, DE.,

yes, my phone was tapped once!

My phone was tapped the entire first trip. Sverdlovsk was a city closed to foreigners just 2 years prior. I was probably being watch too, as one day minutes after my interpreter came in, the phone rang. She answered. A deep voice asked her a lot of questions, she never shared what the questions were with me and at the time my Russian sucked

Being followed by non to subtle FSB lowest of the low ranks - who aren't exactly 'incognito'  is a sign you are mildly interesting ..

The UK guy responsible for overseeing the Tomahawks and Harpoons for use by the UK's Navy and Air force took a holiday in RU just after his ban on visiting such places expired.. He even got back home alive

Russia blocks Startmail.

I suspect Protonmail and other security minded email providers will be next.
