SCOTUS in near and medium term future
« on: August 25, 2019, 08:29:29 PM »
Some liberals in a panic concerning RBGs diagnosis with cancer of pancreas August 2019.
In March 2009, Ginsburg was treated for pancreatic cancer. She also underwent surgery for colon cancer in 1999.

Statements are if Donald gets to name another, the court will be doomed for generations to come.

However, likely a democrat will be elected as president in 2024.

At that point in time, Clarence will be 76 and Alito will be 74.
So increased chance for 2 liberal pickups within the two democratic terms starting in 2025 to restore a semblance of balance.

However, Breyer is 81 already in 2019 so . . . .

And no, McConnell will not hold up any nomination in last year of Donald's presidential term.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

Democrats FDR and Truman named 13 Supreme Court picks in a row. I wonder how the Republicans felt back then.

Already Democrats are upset about the prospect of Trump naming another Supreme.   And I agree with ML that the Republican Senate would immediately confirm any Trump nominee, even if it were months away from a Presidential election.

It is what the Democrats would do if they controlled the White House and the Senate.

I can imagine it will become pretty much standard for an opposing party holding a Senate majority to wait multiple years or even an entire Presidential term before allowing a vote for judicial nominations.

I tend to agree with you, BC.   Merrick Garland should have been subjected to Advise and Consent and voted on.

I believe she is cancer free, which is why the news was released.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

FDR and Truman held the presidency for over 20 years combined. Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed 5 in his shorter time in office. I don't believe SC appointees were quite as divisive then as they are now. (But I could be wrong)
