Could you pass the cranberries?

Which meaning of 'pass' are you using?

How were the crowds? I went to a few stores and I've never seen so few people. Traffic wasn't even bad. Not many mind blowing deals and I think more and more people are buying on the internet. Many stores opened at different times so I think that cut down on the crowds. My wife bought me something from Victoria's Secret. Did anybody die at Walmart this year?

JC Penny opened at 3 PM on Thursday.  We arrived at about 2:55 and saw a line.  But when we arrived at door, it had just opened and the line was already almost completely in.  Didn't know it, but they handed out $10 coupons  to first 200 people; we got 2.

Best Buy opened at 5 PM, we got there around 5:10 and no line.  A lot of people  inside, but I was able to get the Toshiba tablet.

Office Depot opened at 6 PM, we got there at 5:45 and there was line of about 20 people.  I thought we would be out of luck for the Toshiba laptop, but a guy came along line asking  what we wanted.  He handed out coupons for the items until he ran out.  Luckily, we got the next to last coupon.

Then we went to higher end clothing store and found the dresses for Ochka.  Didn't seem to be a lot of people inside.

Went to WalMart on Friday to pick up the microchips and other misc items.  Went in afternoon, and looked pretty much like a normal shopping day, with respect to number of people inside.

Had to return the Toshiba Encore.

First, it locked up and wouldn't turn off.
Search on google gave hint that it might turn off if the + key on volume was held down at same time as power off button.  It worked, but pretty silly system.

Then, it wouldn't turn on even though fully charged and still plugged in to AC.  Tried repeatedly over a 7-8 hour period pushing every combination of keys possible.

Read on Internet that many people were experiencing this same problem.

Then suddenly it came on.

Next day, same thing happened.  Wouldn't come on.

Returned it in that condition.

No hassles at all in Office Depot taking it back.

Strange, all these problems . . . and not just with mine . . . and at same time one reviewer placed the Toshiba Encore in top 10 of all tablets.

It's that time of year . . . January 7th . . . so Ochka busy all day on the 6th preparing food guaranteed to make me even fatter.

Two of the items were Kutia and Pirozhki.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kutia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirozhki

She had three different fillings in the pirozhki; cherries, peaches and sweet cheese that she made herself from scratch starting with Kefir.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kefir

In picture, Ochka is grinding poppy seeds (using mortar and pestle) as one of the ingredients of Kutia.  She uses rice as one of the other main ingredients rather than some other grain.

She always tells me that men are supposed to do the grinding of the poppy seeds; but I tell her not in USA since days of male emancipation.

Ochka infrequently reads some news discussion sites in both Russian and Ukrainian.

1) She remarks how funny it is that the same event is portrayed completely differently in Russian vs Ukrainian sites.

2) One thread was about people at ski resorts in France and Switzerland.  The Russians can always be spotted because all (men, women and children) wear flashy fur coats and women all gold and diamonds in restaurants, etc. while others dress as skiers.  Many out-of-shape RM are at the ski resorts who have no intention of skiing.

3) In another thread, the women were stating how all WW were very fat, so WM would be attracted to FSUW who were just a little fat.

I told her number 3 was not true, for myself and most other WM.

I'm glad "Wonder" applies to 4 year also. I'm the OWW and still going after 11 years. I wish the best for
you. The important part is not the length before marriage, but the length after marriage.

I thought that was you from a PM you sent me a few years ago inquiring if I was thee "Maxx." I am glad you are doing fine and well and the Misses too. Your new name had me worried though about that. I thought, "Oh no! Not another casualty!" Well, you outlasted the guy who gave you your title by a few years.

Today is the 'blessing of the waters' day on the Orthodox calendar.

Also, supposed to wash your self and then the year will be good to you, or some such.

Ochka told me I must take a shower today, but I told her it was not near enough to the end of the month for that.

Kutia and Pirozhki required again for recent religious day.

These were filled with Ochka's home made sweet cheese or cherries.

Yes, I already ate one, to make sure they were OK !!

Has anyone (or spouse) renewed their Ukrainian passport in USA at Ukrainian Embassy in DC or one of the Ukrainian Consulate offices?

I've known people that did.
Seemed a hassle , yet easier than flying back to Ukraine.

Winter storm Jonas came through Saturday and dropped 22 inches of snow on us.

I wanted to get one of my guys out with the tractor and blade, but Ochka said she could do it by hand.  So, of course, I had to help.

But then I called the guy anyway, once we got started down the main driveway.  It would have taken us 2 weeks or so to finish by hand.

Some people pay for that kind of exercise at fitness clubs. You could've gotten two weeks exercise for free but lost the benefit when you called in the tractor.

Multiply that by 4 and you have Boston from last year.

When living in Pennsylvania outside Philadelphia, we received almost 36" of snow in one day.  I constructed a toboggan run for my 3-yo son with steep sides so he would not fly into the trees. It took me most of the day.

The snow plows came late the second day and cleared our rural road.  I cleared the driveway on the third day, which was not a difficult task as it was steep and I merely pushed the snow sideways into a ravine rather than shovel it into piles.

I finally made it to the office around noon of the third day, yet had written a business proposal by longhand.

It was beautiful but once was enough.  Now I know why I live in the subtropics.  Yet even here I had to wear thermal underwear to play golf.

ML, where do you live that you got 22"? We "escaped" the worst of it with only 6-8" up in the northeast corner of PA where I live, but 29" piled on top of my car awaits me when I finish my trip tomorrow night in BWI. Plus, I'll be plowed in. Can't wait....

We are south of you.  We get hit worst when winter storm comes up from Gulf bringing all that moisture.

You probably get hit more from snow coming down from Canada . . . when wind coming from that direction.

I'm more than a year late to this thread, but ML, allow me to wish you my sincere congratulations. Several years ago in a private exchange you said something like "You are I are two very different people." While that may be so, it strikes me that the difference is more pronounced in how we perceive things and the world. Elvira and I are very happy for both you ~ we all strive to get to the same place, although in our own unique way.
