What's on your FSU bucket list to visit?
« on: June 21, 2015, 02:41:25 PM »
What places in the FSU would you like to see someday?

Would you really want to see a snow leopard in it's natural environment?

or would you care to see the post apocalypse of radioactive Pripyat?

Would you like to ride the trans Siberian railroad while it putts along at the
speeds recommended for driving in school zones?

Maybe mountains and hiking aren't for you? so what would fit your
interests and sense of beauty, history etc?

Maybe the joy of getting your wife or gf's bikini clad body on a sandy Romanian
beach by the Black Sea is more up your ally?

Or maybe you are a little more El Natural and want clothing optional at the
Zlatni rat Beach in Bol, Croatia

Note: The idea of a bucket list was blatantly stolen from Larry who did it elsewhere but
I searched bucket list and didn't come up with anything so I stole the idea fair and square.
I did come up with the places and got the photos from Google.

I have used Trans Siberian 3 times but only so far as Omsk. About 36 hours. It was the pits.

The overnight train from my wife's city of Cheboksary to Moscow beats anything I have ever seen in U.S. Each car has a combination conductor/stewardess in uniform. Very very clean. But bring your own alcohol as they have stopped selling it.

My great desire is to see St. Petersburg.  I have never been there.  We have a trip scheduled for the fall.

Don't wait past October to visit.  It gets pretty dark and depressing in Winter months.

I have always wanted to go to Kaliningrad, birthplace of the great Immanuel Kant! Also, for some strange convoluted reason, I'd like to get plonked in some small Russian village in the middle of Siberia, and live there for a month, just to experience a different way of being.

I have always been fascinated by the rich intellectual tradition of the FSU region. There has to be something fertile in its culture or gene pool that's is responsible for producing such great thinkers.

Meh, I've got to stop reading all that philosophy stuff.

Just go to North Dakota.

Lol! That cracked me up.

I'm willing to bet though the women in the small Russian village would be hotter. I remember reading somewhere that North Dakota has an obesity rate of over 45%. Screw that!

I am glad I was able to visit there a few times in the past.

One of the great untapped tourist must-see places.
Fabulous palaces, gardens, war sites, mountain views, etc.

But I will never go there while under Russian control.

Great choice. Got to do it at least once. I've seen enough of the big cites. I'd like to visit small towns and experience life and the people there.

I'll beat the same drum I always do - it's the most beautiful city in the world.  :blowkiss:

So right!

:truce:

And so you should!  :naughty:

Mid September.

That's when I was there on both my trips - the dates overlapped quite substantially.  First trip - 20-odd degrees every day, only one wet day in the whole visit.  Second trip - 12 or 13 degrees tops, some rain every day except one.

Do all your outdoor sightseeing, including canal trips and the great palaces (Peterhof, Catherine and Alexander Palaces, Peter and Paul Fortress, etc) on fine days, because you need sunshine to appreciate the external beauty of the buildings and gardens.  If you do happen to strike a wet day or days, visit the Hermitage - I spent nearly three days going round it, and that was only the main building.  I'd go back in a heartbeat if I had a really good reason, but I won't have such a plan until Putin is no longer in power.

Lake Baikal

For those who want to know more about Siberia there is a great read called Travels in Siberia written by Ian Frazier. In my opinion well researched and very readable.

My first visit to Petersgrad was in December, except for the dark, cold and snow was fine.

beach by the Black Sea is more up your ally?

Hi! I will have a rest on a beach of the Black Sea in two weeks. I will fly 8 hours by plane to Sochi. I am afraid to fly. But I will do it. There is Lake Baikal near me (12 hours to go by train). I saw Lake Baikal only from a train window. (I know that is very beautiful there) I had no rest on Lake Baikal. Tell me, why people aren't interested in places which are near. Why people are interested in places which are very far?
Maybe only I am doing so?

Privet STaty

When a man is pursuing his FSUW he visits her in her country. I always recommend
that he visit her first in her city. On a second, third, fourth trip etc he can visit someplace
else. Like possibly Lake Baikal

I tried to convince Angel Eyes to visit Sochi or some other place with me but we always
ended up in Voronezh instead. Once she got a visa to the USA she came here and we
would make various trips in the USA.
