Speaking of disparate tatses.  I enjoy Baaba Maal from Senegal.

He is not followed enough to have his songs linked on Youtube.   Here is one example of his music with marvelous photos of the unappreciated diverse beauty of Africa's children.

The French enjoy him and there I was first introduced to him upon hearing the song  Daande Lenol (not available except in crude form).

TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANESandro will  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ about what I am to reveal because  I have contrasted ad nauseum the pop music roots of our youth, his in white and mine in black.  :D
Well, here we got what the major US record companies like RCA, Capitol, etc. saw fit to distribute. Nevertheless, we also got some black pop music, such as these that I bought still as 78-rpm shellac records ;)

She was one of my granny's favorite American female singers.

We're hitting "Berlin Territory".  :)
I'll let you decide how important he was to American music.

For your granny.

One of my grandmother's favorites.

Curious that the female voice (from 1'58") chose to sing in a decent Italian :-\:

"Quando vedo mia madre, io gli tendo la mano..." etc.
(When I see my mother, I offer her my hand...)

I can't listen to her without thinking of this.  ;D

I was gonna post some "P Funk" but figured it would be too hardcore. Yah, what the hell.

Sampling seems to lose the funk.

Yea, and it will likely cause further intensification of allegations against you

I promise I won't hate myself when reprimanded by most RWD music lovers for posting ĞI just wanna danceğ by Max Barskih.
BTW, this singer/song failed to be chosen as the Ukrainian entry for the Eurovision song contest 2012.  Europe today is not in party mood  ::)

that song is good =) usually I don't like when guys sing club music.

I noticed almost everyone, young and old listen to club music in Russia. To me, its feel good music, puts me in a good mood.

Listening to some of this music makes me miss russia =(

Another man undone by a large age gap ;D .

Age gap was small, only 9 years.  Lewis was 22 and she was 13, plus his cousin.   I guess he felt it okay because he got married for the first time at 14 (and they are not even from West Virginia).  He was devoutly Christian and I suppose objected to sex without being married.

Do RWD people like jazz, particularly soul jazz?   To be precise, funk?    And a meaty saxophone?

Soul jazz?
I liked the one you posted.
Any more?
I have trouble with defining some music because of cross overs.

Somehow in Carolina this music is still popular with the older white people.  However, even some younger white people are fans.    It is still played at dance pavilions along the beach as people dance the Carolina shag (a form of swing).
The original jitterbug music was too fast for the shaggers taste (average tempo: 110-135 bpm).

Here is a list of top shag songs: http://bettybbungalow.tripod.com/music.html

#1 shag club is Fat Harolds in Myrtle Beach
