From 20'15" to 23' this piece contains one of the most beautiful, simplest melodies I've ever heard :D - for many years in my distant youth I thought it had been written by Tchaikovsky ::), anyway Rachmaninoff was Russian, too, so I was not too terribly far off ;).

Here's the score of the Andante cantabile:

Just 10 notes for an unforgettable melody!   :clapping:

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

If it is a youtube video, cut and past the "share" link from youtube.

After you click reply and have the reply box screen, up above where you have different font options is also an option icon to "insert hyperlink". It's a little square button that kind of looks like a blue globe with note paper. Click it, it will then put the command into your replay box and then paste your link into it. It will look something like this with the cursor blinking inbetween these ] [

BTW, years ago I suggested to Dan that a "Help" page on the most common posting stumbles - like inserting videos, attachments, multi-quotes, etc. - could be useful, and I prepared something, see http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=48.

Dan said that there was already a Help function, and declined the offer. Maybe it's time to resurrect the idea :-\?

I think that's a good idea. It might help some of those looking for the different functions. Many are not obvious

Tonight I attended a concert at the Basilica of St. Eustorgio, one of Milan's oldest churches dating to the IV century:

The 1st part of the program included Bach's Suite 3 in D major (BWV 1068), whose 2nd movement (Air) is very well known, also called Air on the G string:

The 2nd part was Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243):

Calling it 'Air on the G string' people don't seem to put any thought into the title (suggesting that the piece is intended to be played all on the G string)  ;)

If you want to keep your expressions convergent, never allow them a single degree of freedom.

Yes, considering that the original piece was from an orchestral Suite (composed between 1717 and 1723).

The popular sobriquet originated from a later re-work:
Quote
The title comes from violinist August Wilhelmj's late 19th century arrangement of the piece for violin and piano. By transposing the key of the piece from its original D major to C major and transposing the melody down an octave, Wilhelmj was able to play the piece on only one string of his violin, the G string.

Later, a spurious story was put about that the melody was always intended to be played on the G string alone.
