East Coasters
« on: September 01, 2006, 11:21:24 AM »
Since I suggested this section I might as well contribute.

It would be a nice idea for us to propose group meetings or post events that occur on the East Coast.

I know there are Ukrainian festivals in Baltimore and DC and get togethers were held in Virginia with the Capitol Couples Yahoo group.

If I hear of something I will post in this section. Today I wanted to open it up for any suggestions.

It might be nice to have something over the Christmas holidays at a central location, wherever that could be.

Thank you.

SoC,

That is a great idea. I would recommend some restaurant in Baltimore area some Saturday (after all it is football season  ;D). I would like to meet you, Ken, T/G and a few others. Hopefully Baltimore is a central enough location for everyone.

My stepson is going to Ukraine for his Christmas break, so maybe we can try for Russian Christmas (January 7) or if others people are leaving the country then we can try after Russian Christmas.

Perhaps we could find a date in October to meet up. Someplace close to a highway exit and easy to get to/from.

Would a Halloween party be doable?
Or maybe just a celebration of Autumn.

Halloween party would be fun but that would also need to include over night accommodations and baby sitting services. Not out of the question but does add another piece to the puzzle.

Sounds great to me too. Ken you have a place to stay here with us. We have plenty of room here and  the door is always open. Anytime is fine with Maryna and I.

Patrick lives about 60 minutes from Baltimore so maybe dinner at China Buffet or another nice restaurant would be possible. There are very nice swing dances at Glen Echo Park which is about 20 minutes away and some great bands play in the ballroom. Since the remodeling, Glen Echo has a small snackroom and a few tables and chairs set up. Might be a good option for a small group especially if there is a Halloween dance. Just a thought.

I think another shopping excursion to Potomac Mills may not be a bad idea since we didn't do any shopping last time. I have been to Potomac Mills twice and it is rumored to be a mile long. We may lose the wives. There are plenty of restaurants and places to get lost. This is probably a better choice for the people who may be coming from Richmond or the Carolina's.

I am wondering if a second group meeting should be considered for the guys living further North in Pennsylvania, Maryland or New York.

I have never been the best organizer but I can come up with suggestions and I could even search for restaurants with room for small groups.

Clyde, Using the handy and helpful RWS member's map, there are a very few of us in PA - and guys like TurboGuy and I live at the opposite sides of a fairly large state.

We would still be up for a meeting, but I don't know if i can convince everyone here to endure a two hour ride to VA.  But this is our problem. I think you should just find a convenient spot and i will do my best to convince the neck  :-[ to travel southward.

The pictures you posted from the last party were terrific. I feel like I know you guys already from reading your posts each day.

Clyde post a location and date and let us post or chat concerns
etc.. Any steakhouse or good eating facil. should have a room or
rooms for groups and the sooner we set it up the better. These
get booked for wed. reh. dinners etc as you well know.

We could then decide on another date for a get together in
Phil. or NY State. Lets just get started. If everyone makes an effort
should be no problem. People can't set up their calander if knowbody
sets a date.

I am hoping Turboguy can join the Pennsylvania people but it would be a very long drive to Virginia. Would Baltimore be doable? I know some nice restaurants here but nothing in Pennsylvania. I really like Uno Chicago Grill There is one in DC, one in Columbia and one in Ellicott City Md. I'm sure there are some in Pennsylvania. My wife loves the place. http://www.unos.com/

I want to meet with my friends in Virginia and North Carolina also but it seems like an impossible task to get everyone together with the driving distance involved. I am still thinking two meetings may be the best choice.

This is an awesome idea, but I live on Long Island, NY.  I could easily make a meeting in Manhattan or even Jersey City or something right over the border, but Baltimore is just too far to go.  I need to save up for trips to Russia, not blow money driving all over the east coast.  Gas is expensive.

I am wondering if it is possible to start a database of people from the east coast who would be interested in meeting. The east coast is actually very broad and not just Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York. Dan would you have any suggestions?
