I made a statement once before that the best compliment I can ever give FSUWs living here in the US is they really are no different than any other AW given the same conditions, opportunities and circumstances AW have. Conversely, had roles been reversed, things for the most part would still be one and the same...

Probably quite true.  A couple of young Ukrainian ladies I know here have the amazingly beautiful genes, dress well and work very hard at what they do.

In regards to your suggestion my plans for my next trip are to be in the FSU, but to be in Latvia and Estonia.  From there I will go immediately to Jerez Spain for a short vacation.

I would guess youtube and international had zero to do with it.

Yanukovych made a phone call to the guy's father denouncing the event.   Posters were posted around town.   Yanukovych doesn't want a revolt in his home region.

Knowing about Yanukovich, I'd respectfully counter than had it not been for YouTube, the posters you mention, and other Russian/Ukrainian language blogsites, he'd have never bothered to make the call.

Yuri registered over 3 months ago, and has lurked here since before this scandal.  Why is it that any time a new poster appears, there is some sort of conspiracy?  This forum comes up as a top search, which is how most posters end up here.
Thank you, Boethius. To tell you the truth, I don't actually follow the Ukrainian news, and I found out about this story from this forum.
1.  We don't really know much about Yuri except that he/she posted the link to X-rated photos very shortly after arriving here.  It's not unreasonable to think that Yuri could have been hired by Roman's team to smear the reputation of the woman on any and all blogs talking about this situation.
Had I known this thread was about bashing the naughty politician and romanticizing his victim I would refrain from posting the link.  :-X  I don't justify the guy's violence, but it takes two to tango. Some guys have zero tolerance for disrespectful attitude and some girls think they can get away with anything they say or do. Add alcohol to the mix and you are guaranteed an ugly scene.

I think the guy's shirt isn't stained but has some sort of print on it.

I also believe Yanukovich wouldn't have given a damn if public opinion hadn't gelled against him by virtue of the viral video. He didn't care when the kid's father beat the cop because it was a government worker who could be ordered to shut up and accept it while he took a few months' vacation with full pay somewhere quiet and out of the way.

Then there's the number of times these things happen and it doesn't get enough spread in the news for public opinion to take a stand.

I'm sure Mubarak, Gadafi, various Yemenis and Syrians never dreamed the INternet would become a factor in toppling their regimes a year ago.....

Dictators all around the world are going to school on this subject these days. China knew what it was doing the last 4-5 years and we see similar control attempts being made in Belarus and the U.S. with proposals for Internet "kill switches" and filtering.

This was a dumb attempt at humor.  My posts are honest and sincere, but may need improvement.

I did throw GQ for a loop when I said Thai Kwon Do was a mix of Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Do.  I clarified that to GQ.

No, that was not merely a "dumb attempt at humor" - and your posts often lack either honesty or sincerity - by your own admission.

Such a strange post.

Rubicon, you have full control over your avatar settings. Why are you demanding others to change for you what is, and has been, within your control all along?

My take is that it is a need for attention.

Fine - you now have my full attention . . . . for the amount of time it takes me to remove your avatar and permanently separate you from RWD.

Have a good one . . . .

Control was the issue one way or another. So, they terminated him and (I'm sure) admonished him to fade away if he knew what was best for him.

reminds me of the DAI Commandant in Kyiv who was cut off by Yatsenyuk, flipped him off and then was canned. The joke was his replacement had to be missing his middle fingers before being allowed to take the job.

According to my computer translation of the 1st article, they were dismissed(fired) from that job, and transferred to another job of traffic duty.

This has happened in America in the not too distant past, not by politicians but by industrial leaders.   I am thinking of Ed Ball, a powerful man whom I had the pleasure of meeting one day on a commercial flight.

Ed Ball managed the du Pont estate worth in the $billons including a private railroad and a large paper/lumber company.  He was a giant among the nation's captains of industry, perhaps the last robber baron.  Stories of his power are legendary.  One example involves the fact that he never drove a car.  His chauffeur was speeding one day and a Florida Highway Patrolman (state policeman) tried to stop them.  Ed ordered the chauffeur to evade the patrolman as he was late for an engagement.  The chauffeur ran  the patrolman off the road.  The result - the patrolman received an official reprimand!

Here is a bio on Ed Ball (one of the last of his kind).  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Ball_(businessman)

How did I meet him?  Although Ed ball was worth hundreds of $millions in the 1970s, he flew in coach (economy class).  Not only that, he had the middle seat next to me in aisle.  I did not know this man, and I recall how he stood probably not taller than 5'6", about 80 years old, and had me stand so he could sit down.  The flight attendant sold him two bourbons and before drinking he gave a toast, "Confusion to the Enemy!"  He then asked me if I were a government worker as the plane originated in Washington, DC.  I said no..... and it soon got to the fact that I worked for a major corporation.  He smiled and said that it was a good company.  I asked him who he knew at the company; he named my company's president and informed me that my president sat on his board.  I gulped.  As we talked I learned that he had just been to the Supreme Court to hear a case involving one of his companies.  My job then was marketing environmental services, and Ed had no use for them (to be expected considering that one of his companies had clearcut much of Florida).

Two days later the company president called me and I went to his office.  Just chit chat and 20 Ed Ball stories including the one about the patrolman, "Confusion to the Enemy," and some unprintables.  Such moments in life are rare and I treasure the memory.

Wherefore art thou, Romeo? Err, I mean Roman.
« Reply #243 on: December 29, 2014, 04:41:57 PM »

You may recall the July 3 2011 incident where Roman Landyk was arrested for dragging
Maria Korshunova by her hair across the popular restaurant Baccarat in Lugansk.
http://www.kyivpost.com/content/ukraine/pro-presidential-lawmakers-son-caught-on-video-bea-108319.html

I'm not sure how much jail time Roman served:
http://ukrainiancrisis.net/news/6291

Maria left Lugansk to find work in Kyiv: "All people were looking at me very intently, that is on the street, in a shop, anywhere. Constantly watching, watching. I came to Kiev with a suitcase and a dream. As usual provincial."

Roman is part owner of IRTA TV/radio station in Lugansk.  After broadcasting a pro-government segment
criticizing the separatists, the pro-Russian mob seized the stations.  Bullets were fired into his house.

It appears Roman was arrested in Beverly Hills a few months ago:
