Ukrainian Independence Day 24 August 2019

We will be having the annual picnic at our home.

About 30 people with some connection to Ukraine will attend.

I am more loyal to Ukraine than some Ukrainians

One of the Ukrainian persons coming to picnic today called to ask if they could bring a friend from Russia.

I said:  NO WAY because that specific person had told me face to face a couple of years ago that he fully supported the invasion of Ukraine and killing of Ukrainian citizens as 'correct and necessary.'

The Ukrainian said we should try 'people diplomacy' to get such to change their minds.

I said:  You can try it; but not at my house as I would likely hit the man upon sight.

I can't believe that a person would even want to talk with a second person that held such views.

I know many fine Russians who strongly support the retaking of Crimea. They don't talk much about Donbas. I generally don't hold a Russians political views against them if they're good people otherwise.

Ask the person if someone came into their home, killed a friend or family member and took over one room, would they have a diplomatic talk with them?
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

Exactly my point.

And further . . .

In another discussion, the person who wanted to bring a Russian asked me why I supported Donald trying to have a good relationship with Putin and Xi Jinping when I wasn't willing to talk with a Russian who had goals opposite of mine.

Quite simple.

Non-officials can achieve nothing from talking to those in other countries in terms of getting them to change their mind, actions, etc.

But the opposite is true for officials, particularly high officials such as Presidents and Premiers.
They can negotiate and come to agreement that each will give up something in return for changed behavior on the part of the other country.

Government leaders at all levels (including leaders of Republicans and Democrats in state and national legislatures) can and should always keep on best possible talking terms with each other to try to achieve something positive . . . whereas non-official individuals (those of us here) have nothing to gain (and a lot to lose from ulcers to criminal charges) from interactions with those of opposing views.
