Wondering how they're doing with this potentially deadly storm.

Living in Tampa, I hope it stays east.  We are already soaked (4" rain on Sunday evening, just a local storm).

A day or two ago I was thinking about delightful weather.  A large hurricane will draw moisture from over 100 miles away, creating low humidity in the distant areas. Great golf weather!  This storm is so big we may get bands of light rain in Tampa. 

The northeast corner of a hurricane is the high impact zone.  Unless the storm shifts even farther west (still possible), the east coast of Florida will avoid catastrophic damage.  Huge waves and big erosion will be a problem.  And some idiots like to surf such storms.

I was in Homestead 2 days after impact running down box trucks with supplies. I saw much worse than missing roofs. CBS block homes were leveled and semi trucks were sitting on warehouse roofs.

I was living in Coral Springs at the time. We lost about 10 Australian pines from the wind that far north.

Hurricane Wilma we lost power for several weeks. We siphoned gas from our boats to run generators and worked outside on our laptops while we ate BBQ. We made a lot of money online those two weeks as a large number of people in our industry took time off.

I have gone out surfing in most of the hurricanes. Before landfall, during the eye, and after. No big deal tbh. Waves are garbage and overblown unless it sits right off the coast.

The projected track of Matthew has shifted farther west, running along the coast, likely coming on land for awhile as a Category 4. 

This is very serious.  Millions of people will be without power, many perhaps for days because there are not enough crews to repair outages.  Crews from GA, SC and NC normally come south during a storm to supplement the manpower.  For Matthew, those crews need to be kept in their own states to deal with Matthew as it moves northward. 

It seems Alex and his wife will miss the brunt of the storm as Matthew will go ashore well north of his location late tonight.  The track can change.

As you mention, this is a very dangerous storm. Looks like landfall will lie somewhere between Jupiter and Jax.

Yikes. I had gone through hurricane Sandy while living in NJ. Lost power for 8 friggin days after the storm. We had crews that came over from all over as far as Alabama to repair fallen lines. I spent 8 nights in front of the fireplace as gas was still available. Was able to cook food of course but nothing from the fridge even though I had portable power and it lasted only a few hours. It was cold 8 nights. Not fun. Good luck to all in Florida, a state I want to move to if it still exists.

It'll be there. This isn't Florida's first rodeo. I grew up and in fact my elderly father is still there along with some other family members just inland off the coast of Georgia. Some of the models are calling it a direct hit.

Growing up there were a number of hurricanes that came our way. Not once did we ever consider evacuation in fact it was a call to party. Mostly they amounted to nothing but wind, rain and a reason to be holed up for 24 hours or so. Seems the intensity is much stronger now than then. Seems so anyways.

I googled this.  One study in 2011, which found that men's testosterone drops after they become fathers.  That is within a month of a child's birth.  That makes sense, as evolutionarily, a child would need the protection of a father to live.  I don't know of studies that have found stay at home fathers have lower testosterone.  There are also studies that gay men have the highest levels of testosterone.


I suspect the aforementioned fetish, if it is indeed becoming more prevalent, is due to online porn availability rather than a decrease in testosterone.
