Are US citizens 100% not allowed to enter Belarus?
« on: June 10, 2022, 06:16:32 PM »
I met a gal from Belarus (Minsk) on a pretty standard Int. Dating Website. We've been video and voice calling through Telegram for ~2 weeks. I'd like to go meet her. I checked on http://www.passportindex.org/ and I know that Belarus is not "Visa Free" for US Citizens. I also remember from back in 2021, when they closed their borders to US Citizens after some incident where they grounded a plane to remove a journalist, etc. and the US banned flights into Belarus.

So... needless to say... I one million percent understand that every sign I see just says... "No!" but... kinda like that scene in Dumb and Dumber... if there is 99.99999% chance it's a "No," I'm thinking... "0.000001%..??? So you're saying there a chance!!!"

I'm pretty sure she and I will just end up meeting in Tbilisi or Batumi Georgia. (Kinda fitting... since I was born and raised in Atlanta. I kinda always thought I'd meet a good gal in Georgia [ba dum dum]"

But I thought it would be at least worth a post to ask if anyone knows of some secret handshake or decoder-ring that might allow me to come meet her in Minsk? Tbh... I've actually always really wanted to see Gomel, Brest, Minsk, Grodno, and Novopolotsk. Call me a spoiled brat American, but... it kinda blows that politics is cock-blocking everybody super hard!!!

I'm not aware of an existing prohibition. Contact the closest embassy/consulate to confirm, then apply for a visa. Just be aware that things can change quickly and I would not be surprised if Belarus becomes an active participant in the conflict.

I wouldn't meet a stranger in a third country, and I certainly wouldn't be paying for them. Two weeks? You sound like a horny toad!

My wife is from Minsk and currently even she will not go back the Belarus anytime soon with what is going on right now. You should check with the us govt website. Think with your big head and not the little one.

I went to Minsk just a while before the virus thing hit, it's a nice enough city, city centre at least rest I got the impression is the usual concrete block cr*p. Last I heard it was a case of getting a flight to Istanbul first then from there to Belarus because of the flight diversion incident thing.

Now with all the Russian Invasion I don't know if even that is possible. I don't know if Russia still has a big presence in Belarus since they switched to attacking in the Donbas more. The risk is that they may think you are there for some dubious reason. Even when I was there there was a state security guy outside my apartment block when I walked out in the morning - I don't think specifically for me they had some parade thing on that day. On the following days there wasn't anyone but of course with the way things presently are.

Georgia I have never been to but I 'm guessing flights have to fly well clear of the present situation so may not make it wonderfully easy to get to.

I am reasonably sure that you can travel to Belarus.

I advise visiting a girl in her country for a first visit. Once you have
met each other in person and know you like each other then you can
start investigating the benefits of meeting in third countries.

If I were going to meet in a third country, I would either want to make
it a visa building experience1 for my girl, or I would make it super nice
and convenient2 for myself.

1. Get her a Schengen visa and she is one step closer to getting a US
tourist visa.

2. Meet her in Cabo, that way she flies across the Atlantic in seats made
for midgets, she is surely shorter than you are.

Added bonus: You are the official oil boy and get to watch her frolic in the
ocean in her bikini. Warning, Russian's can't eat Mexican food (too spicy)
they often don't know how to be wise with sunscreen (burned to a crisp
for the entire trip). As official oil boy you will keep track of that.

If you go this route rent an airbnb with a kitchen and play house. Buy
local fish or meat & veggies, avocados, beans, cheese and tortillas and
make food in the airbnb sans peppers and hot spices. You will save money
and it won't upset her delicate tummy.

This is true.
I witnessed it.
