Heading to Moscow tonight
« on: April 23, 2015, 03:38:31 PM »
Hi guys!

Well today starts the trip!  I fly tonight from SLC to JFK and then tomorrow from JFK to Moscow so I land Saturday morning at 630am Moscow Time.  I figured I'd start the thread now because from here on out, it'll all be from my phone and it's easier to do this on a computer.

There is an intro post on "odds".  I guess I'll say this, my trip is a WOVO trip.  We've been talking everyday for 4+ months (yes, Skype) so that due diligence has been done.  The questions going both ways have been very detailed and extensive.  I guess I'll be able to answer much better once I return but as for now, time to go catch a plane!

I think you'll come out a winner Ken. Not many guys have had as much correspondence with a lady before visiting her. You two know each other well and you've never complained she's given you bad attitude. Enjoy your trip.

Never complained because she never has.  Knock on wood.  She still worries she's not good enough for me.  I will never get that

Best wishes for a safe trip.  Remember that, no matter how much you've talked on Skype, it could still all turn to custard as soon as you meet!  :trainwreck:  Treat it as a holiday with possible life-long benefits, rather than a trip to get married "just because."

That said, I wish you the very best for your adventure.

Well...I made it! My compliments to Transaero.  Very nice flight, decent food an on time!  Passport control was interesting as I was the only American on the plane but i got through.  The funny part was NO Customs.  I picked up my bags and just walked out.  No one even had any paperwork. Veryeasy.  Lilua and I found each other and got the train to her apartment.  Showered, had some borscht and went to Old Arbat.  Did a little souvenier hunting and people watching.  Funniest part was stopping at a dunkin donuts for coffee and had to get her dome donuts for home. Then a much needed sleep

Day 2...woke up around 6 am and had blini for breakfast.  A long walk in the park and a trip to Romanov house. My turn to cook after a trip to grocery.  Lets see how my american recipes work with russian ingredients.

Nice photos, Ken.  You both look happy.

Day 3.  Its monday morning here and shes still sleeping but Im up with the sun.  Dinner last night was fun.  A GF of hers came over with blinis and strawberry jam.  The strawberries are TINY and tasted different but they were strawberries.  My italian garlic chicken was a hit so I was happy I got to make somerhing for them

Today will be a long one.  Starting out we need to go to the Post office to register me, then a Moskva River cruise and finish the day with a concert at the Kremlin.

The people are frienfly to me though I see all the inqusitive eyes...who is this, where is he from...as they hear my english and accent.  I dont seem to dress much different than a nicely dressed guy here so that isnt what is noticed.  I wonder what is? Holding hands, Pda? Thats not my problem.  What I havent seen is the bevy of beauties that we are led to believe.  Maybe tonight.  So fat, so fun.

They're probably wild strawberries. They usually have a more intense flavor.

You're going to the Kremlin - drop into the underground mall below Revolution Square.  If you can't find your "bevy of beauties" there I'll assume that you're the hardest person in the world to please when it comes to defining "beauty."  :wallbash:

Perhaps Ken is so besotted with his woman that no others can compare.

Compare?  Yes - that, of course, would be the ideal situation.  :D

However, if he's actually human, is really in Moscow, and can't see any hotties other than his girlfriend, he needs a brain transplant.  8)

Holding hands, Pda? Thats not my problem.

Holding hands is not a problem, certainly. However looks unusually for your age range in Russia. This Pda is reserved for teenagers. Probably public kissing is more ordinary thing for a couple to commit in the streets.

Yes.  We kiss everywhere.  I've seen the looks...I Dont worry about what they are thinking.  I want to hold her hand or kiss her, Im going to.  I hope nibody is bothered but I get a week here with her...Im going to kiss here all I Can

Not everyone thinks the same way.  Not even all men.

Trust me - I'm a guy!

Seriously, Boe, I'm talking about looking, not touching.  It doesn't matter how used Ken is to the pretty girls in Salt Lake City, nor how he thinks other women compare with the lady he's with, Moscow's girls (and those in other big FSU cities) are in a league of their own.

ML made the point once that the USA has just as many gorgeous girls, but so many are effectively invisible because they drive their own car to work, starting from an underground garage in their apartment building and ending up in another one at their place of work, from where they simply take an elevator to their office.  If they're seen outside the office, it's for five minutes to grab some lunch from a food bar or deli right next to their own building.

In Russia, where 99% of the population take public transport to work, the "gorgeousness" quotient is far more visible.  In Moscow especially, with over 10 million inhabitants and the greatest public transport system that I've seen anywhere in the world, I reckoned on seeing at least one girl that I would rate at 9.5 or 10/10 standing on the platform at nearly every Metro stop, especially those in the heart of the city.

Ken doesn't need to feel guilty about looking at them while he's with the woman that he went to meet - it's male human nature.  So long as he's happy with the one that he went to see, and she with him, that's really all that matters.
