Odds and Ends / Would it be better to live in geo-political regions?
« Last post by Trenchcoat on Today at 02:20:41 PM »
Here is a thought I thought I would throw on here for discussion.

What about instead of countries people grouped together in regions of the world with the same or similar politics/ideology.

Let's face it people can argue to their hearts content about politics and how things should be but people rarely if ever change their point of view. In theory it means that in many countries are many people living opposed to the politics of that country/government. So in that respect under conditions they would rather not do so.

So what if instead the world was split up by different geo-political regions.

So Feminists would have their own region, Male Chauvinists another region, Racists another region, Multiculturalists another, Capitalists another, Socialists another and so on and so forth.

Then people could go and live in the region that aligned with their politics/ideology etc, so for them live in their paradise without being subjected to the whim of politics/ideology they are opposed to.

I was also a 'wonder.'

Current wife and I married after she had lived with me for 3 and half years in USA.

We had 're-introduced' 4 years earlier after having briefly first met a few times 10 years earlier at business meetings.

In early May, it will have been 20 years since our brief first meetings.

Since I am so old . . . I can't wait around to celebrate X years of marriage, so we are going to celebrate our 20th in May 2024.

We still 'wonder' how it all came about.

One tid-bit:

When she was waiting in line for first visa (student type) to USA she said:

"God,  if I should NOT go to USA, then just don't allow my visa to be approved."

. . . I decided that I was not going to send her back, so I drove her to Las Vegas and married her.

A form of 'kid-napping?'

the thing about playing 'games of chance'
is once in awhile ya hear about someone hitting 'a big jackpot' which gets attention
but you almost never hear about the 'schmucks' (am I allowed yiddish on this site?) who lose their shirt...
so noobs consider it realistic to play because of the lack of perceived negatives
they don't do any sort of analysis. to determine their chances of success
if they did, most of 'em would't gamble with their lives this way

even if yur a card counter, in the world's dumbest casino (doesn't reshuffle deck)
when you place yur bet on the table
it's always gonna be a sphicter tightening moment

good players, have real playin skillz that they've learned, it bumps up their odds
poor players only have the image of the jackpot and how they're gonna spend it

how do ya say, "I dropped the toothpaste in German"?
CrestFallen
ach mensch...

billionaires donate to both sides, it's called hedging

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_(United_States)

"The 1896 realignment cemented the Republicans as the party of big businesses while president Theodore Roosevelt added more small business support by his embrace of trust busting."

Today 'ole Teddy would be a democrat, why?
because he was in favor of a progressive income tax on the rich and powerful
indexed for inflation, 'ole Teddy didn't want to start taxin folks until only after about 60k of income...
he didn't wanna tax the labor of the 'workin man', only the plutocracy

his speech here
http://ips-dc.org/a_century_later_teddy_roosevelts_speech_on_corporate_power/

now republicans have flipped everything
1. tax the working man more than the 1%
2. support Russia, instead of opposing it

what happened to the republican party?
they fell victim to the "Iron Law of Oligarchy"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_law_of_oligarchy

now Republican apologists like Anne Coulter will assert that today's Republican Party is the same 'Party of Lincoln" from 1860
but it's NOT, they're connin you

Today the Republican party is more or less MAGA with 'alternative facts" that are distributed through their media outlets owned by people like Rupert Murdoch and Elon Musk and a galaxy of other disinformation sites
Remember 'Pravda'? now we have "Truth Social"
same deal...

a simple comparison of the two
Democrats
  New Deal/social security, etc
  '64 Civil Rights Act
  Affordable Care Act
  student loan forgiveness

Republicans
Tax cuts for corporations and bilionaires

TODAY, you yourself  Beel, have medical insurance, NOT because of Republicans (not a single Republican voted for the ACA, aka "Obamacare")
you have it in spite of Republicans, cuz they were willin to let ya die without it, so that their patrons could keep more money for themselves

I'm not sure why you wanna lend political support to the party that's SO indifferent to you, that they don't care if you live or die

why is it you vote against your own interests, to maintain the staus quo of the billionaires?
are you a closet billionaire Beel?

btw, I was a republican up to Ronald Reagan...
as the cliche goes
I didn't leave the party, the party left me
I even campaigned for a Republican Senator in my youth

"Upside down"
a great music video filmed in the FSU

Is it smart to be a "One week wonder"?

p.s. (I also think that the more experienced posters here do the newbies a great disservice by just congratulating the "one week wonders" and not warning them of the potential harm their actions may cause)

I made 4 trips to meet and be with Angel Eyes, she made 2 trips to be with me.
During her second trip I decided that I was not going to send her back, so I
drove her to Las Vegas and married her.

I'm sorry, but today's Republican Party is NOT The Party of Lincoln, instead it became the party of "big business" at the end of 19th century

Upside down and backwards
Meanwhile back in the 21st century can you name a single non-oil sector in the S&P 500
that doesn't donate to the DNC or leftist causes. The Dems are in bed with big corporations
at the expense of small businesses. The left will drive them out of business if they don't.

How about a single company in the S&P 500?

Peace

Beel

comedy, warfare....
success depends on timing

Israel scrubbed the first two missions, which WERE much more extensive
with a smaller one focused on an Iranian air base
I will hear the details later today...
but I already heard a weird story I can't confirm, that the Israeli attack was launched from WITHIN Iran
sounds like they flew F-35s into Iran, and from within Iran, they launched stealth glide bombs
Iran had no clue, until the explosions

Israel attacked the Isfahan Air Base, this facility is not far from several of Iran's el-cheapo Chinese nuclear reactors that are SOLELY used for physics research and not plutonium production
makes for a good warning, should Iran decide to escalate

Israel knows the thickness of the reactor containment sphere and whether or not a 'bunker buster" can penetrate the containment sphere before detonating on the reactor
remember when Israel took out Iraq's plutonium breeder reactor back in the day

Israel being a "good boy" will get the money from Biden...and in return they will delay actions that WILL effect oil prices until after November
it's a "quid pro quo" world, though inflation means it's 4.3 quids now

hostage smiles on Presidents, freedom scribbled on the subway wall
it's like night and day

Covid was just the first warnin to ya'll
that one day, Babylon gonna fall

by the end of the next decade, there will be a "new economic order" after the old one collapses
we will all dwell in it's 'heart of darkness'

I am a Catastrophe Theorist
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catastrophe_theory

and have created my own excel model of the "debt bomb"
tryin to predict when it all goes nonlinear, i.e. "The Collapse"

you haz yur hobbies, and I haz mine

I kind of expected something a bit more full on for Israel's counter attack on Iran.

Looks like it might all just be a set up to get the Israel & Iran thing de-escalated without either side losing face.

Trip Reports / Being with 'Smart' gals
« Last post by ML on Yesterday at 07:12:25 PM »
I would say around 90% of the FSU gals I spent time with were quite a bit above average IQ.  No, this doesn't mean that FSU folks are smarter on average than USA folks.  In fact they are less smart on average.

Current wife has quite a bit more brain power than I do, but she doesn't know it.  However, she is lacking in logic in many instances.

She gave me the Einstein Puzzle and was pleased how quickly I solved it.
Had I floundered . . . she probably would not have come to USA to live with me.

Supposedly Einstein said only 2% of people in the world could solve the puzzle.

I think around 20% of the people can solve it.
A better measure might be the time it takes a person to solve it.
