I wish I would've learned Russian. Not saying it would've saved my marriage but it certainly wouldnt have hurt. I could've communicated with my inlaws that spent half my marriage living under our roof down the hall. Both of my kids speak Russian. I never met a Russian speaking lady that wasn't amused at my effort of the few sayings I do know.
My old friend Matthew Schwartz(RIP) spoke some Russian. When I first met Matt in a market on Khreshatic St I thought he was the gayest guy I had ever met. Hardly the case. The guy was a machine at picking up pretty girls on the street. So not intimidating and the women loved the fact that his Russian showed he put in more of an effort. Stick with The Russian especially in Kharkiv. Stay safe over there. You cant help but stand out in a crowd. Don't pick up any wallets on the street. Enjoy yourself. This August makes 16 years since my first trip.

I'm doing the prerequisite courses for my BSN degree, which hopefully will lead to my MSN and a nurse practitioner designation. I've got to do two semesters of foreign language, so I figured why not Russian?

I've found that learning Russian goes much faster when you are looking into the eyes
of a pretty girl. I learned all the anatomy words sitting naked on a bed with a Russian
girl. I got a kiss when I got the word right. Turns out I was a motivated learner. We all
know that nurse practitioners need to know their anatomy, I started this thread here
for those who haven't had recieved same tutorial that I did.

What did you get when you got the whole phrase right?

It was my first lesson, on my first trip. We never got that far

I learned all the anatomy words sitting naked on a bed with a Russian girl.

I remember once sitting on bed naked with naked Russian gal.
We were trying to come up with plan for what to do the next day or some such.
Despite her having pretty good English, we were having trouble understanding each other in this particular endeavor.
Finally after 10 or more minutes of hassling over coming to some agreement, I said . . . OK, I understand and agree.
She fell back on the bed and let out a huge sigh of relief, laughed and said:
"Between us we have 6 university degrees and yet it seemed like we were children during this process of finding a simple solution."
And then she wondered what others would think if they saw us sitting naked on a bed hassling over the details.
We had a good laugh.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
