Two Ukrainian women killed in Hurghada, Egypt
« on: July 14, 2017, 09:28:56 AM »
CAIRO (Reuters) - Two Ukrainian tourists were killed and four other foreigners wounded by an attacker armed with a knife at an Egyptian Red Sea holiday resort, Egypt's Interior Ministry and security sources said on Friday.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

"Initial reports had said those killed were Ukrainian, but Ukrainian officials denied this." ..

SC likes to go here in the winter - in preference to Sharm el Sheikh to keep the tan topped up.....

Two Ukrainian tourists were killed

Not much to this trip report. You went right to the ending on the first post.

They were German, not Ukrainian.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Well . . . then that's OK

Yes it is news, but it does pertain to trip reports because it is suggesting . . . don't go on such a trip.

And more specifically, if I post anything . . . then it should be considered ipsum magna and posted in the verum locus.

Also . . . Sandro I don't want to hear any smart a$$ corrections from you.

I agree, I wouldn't be traveling in Egypt, or Turkey.  But, I have never had a desire to travel there in any event.

I am glad that I have already spent time in both Egypt and Turkey.
So no need to go there to complete a 'lifetime itinerary.'

Turkey I really liked and have been there multiple times.
Very friendly and helpful people.

Well, you missed a lot of interesting sights. I have fond memories of taking my mother in 1983 to a week-long Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor, plus 3 days in Cairo and Saqqara. The attachment shows a bas-relief on a wall of the temple at Karnak.

My mother did the same when she was living in Europe - both Egypt and Turkey.  She's been an Egypt freak since she was young, so went absolutely gaga when she got to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings.  Seeing the pyramids as well was the icing on the cake.  Troy was something else entirely - the sense of history there is unreal.  They're both on my bucket list, but most likely only when I retire...

Troy was something else entirely - the sense of history there is unreal.
Even if a bit confusing, there being no less than 13 of them ;D:

Troy I 3000–2600 BC (Western Anatolian EB 1)
Troy II 2600–2250 BC (Western Anatolian EB 2)
Troy III 2250–2100 BC (Western Anatolian EB 3 [early])
Troy IV 2100–1950 BC (Western Anatolian EB 3 [middle])
Troy V: 20th–18th centuries BC (Western Anatolian EB 3 [late])
Troy VI: 17th–15th centuries BC
Troy VIh: late Bronze Age, 14th century BC
Troy VIIa: c. 1300–1190 BC, most likely setting for Homer's story
Troy VIIb1: 12th century BC
Troy VIIb2: 11th century BC
Troy VIIb3: until c. 950 BC
Troy VIII: c. 700–85 BC
Troy IX: 85 BC–c. AD 500

Boethius !

Whilst I have never sampled most of the delights of Egypt and I'm no fan of the current 'leadership' of Turkey, I'd suggest that you're defo missing out on the latter ;)

Locals in Sochi are saying that it is 'quieter' this summer as Turkey is open for package holidays to Russians .....

'BUGGER' it was great .. so quiet in October

Could very well be, but I just don't have much interest.  There are lots of places in the world more interesting to me, personally.

The Oxford Dictionary disagrees ;): http://en.oxforddictionaries.com/usage/less-or-fewer

No, it doesn't.  You use "fewer" if it refers to a definite number of objects (e.g. 13 different Troy levels), and "less" if it's an indefinite item (e.g. we've had less rain this month than last) or is referring to measurement or time.

But "13 different Troy levels" ARE an expression of time (stratigraphic dating), archaeologically speaking ;).

If they weren't physical levels to start with (hence "fewer"), you wouldn't know that they were from different times!  :D

A stubborn Antipodean accuser
Insists that I should write 'fewer'.
I blithely confess
I prefer'd to use 'less'
As it rang decidedly truer.
