Well, if there was any doubt as to the polar opposite opinions over the St George's ribbon....  Ukraine's Parliament confirmed it.

Whilst I COMPLETELY understand why - it was  portrayed in Russia as "Ukraine not honouring those who died in the Great Patriotic War" ...

Here's an example of the situation in which this puts other former USSR nations...

Belarus - apparently -  requested that Red, White and Green ribbons be worn / distributed... the article suggests a 'ban' on the St Georges Ribbon -  but ends saying "The Belarusian authorities decided on their own approach to the problem in a more delicate and gentle manner. They did not announce a total ban on individual use, but in official celebrations replaced the orange-and-black symbol with the colours of the current flag of Belarus."

Angel Eyes runs my social calendar, today she had me working
in the yard/garden all day today and tomorrow there is a Russian
picnic in Denver.

Looks more soviet than strictly Russian, Bill. Would not be a very popular thing to display in Lviv.

Back in 2014 it was still possible to wear without getting too much attention -- and as that year wore on it became clearer what it represented .
These days --if spotted wearing it a car you are likely to get dragged out to explain yourself !
I can assure you that the mood of the crowd that will gather will get more hostile by the minute !

Ukraine bans the St. George’s ribbon as a “symbol of Russian aggression”

On 16 May 2017, Ukrainian lawmakers banned the St.George’s ribbon, a controversial emblem of the Second World War used in Russia which many Ukrainians see as a symbol of Russian aggression.

The black-and-orange striped ribbon is a state-embraced symbol of military valor in Russia, where it is widely used in commemorations of the 1945 victory over Nazi Germany. For many in Ukraine, however, the ribbon has come to symbolize Russia-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine in a war that has killed a bit under 10,000 and displaced over 1.6 million people.

Now fines from 850 ($32 USD) to 2550 hryvnia ($97 USD) are envisaged for public use, demonstration or wearing of Georgian ribbons or pictures thereof, UaWire reported. For repeated infringement during a year, a more severe punishment is envisaged – a fine of up to 5100 hryvnia ($193 USD) or administrative arrest for up to 15 days.

To many Russian people that is ALL it is ...  I posted the link from Wiki up-thread.

I am no fan of VVP and I assure you - despite my understanding the offence this ribbon causes many Ukrainians - most of those wearing it simply don't wear it believing it will offend Ukrainians.

yep i would agree from my experience with our russian family and friends there

Sometimes it is interesting to re-read threads -- it is very clear how ignorant &  foolish some posters are.
All too typical very stupid Russians arrogance in action.

Ukrainian border guards send two Russians back to Minsk over St. George ribbon

Two Russian citizens – a man and a woman – have been refused entry into Ukraine and sent back to Minsk, Belarus, over a controversial St. George ribbon. The incident happened at Kyiv's Boryspil Airport on the evening of May 3, spokesman for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service Oleh Slobodyan has said.

"Both arrived on a private visit, with enough money to stay in Ukraine and having return tickets. But St. George ribbons that are outlawed in Ukraine were attached to the tourists' luggage,"
The two declined the border guards' instruction to remove the ribbons that are considered to be a symbol of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
