Russian Movies
« on: December 07, 2007, 07:35:41 AM »
Just out of curiosity who are the top Russian movie stars past and present?

My wife has a bunch of videos and I really don't know who the superstars are of Russian cinema.

Can someone help?

There is one comedy with a young Russian comedian, a tall thin guy and his humor is a lot like Benny Hill. Very many sight gags and girls in skimpy outfits (or topless). The guy also wears many different costumes and sometimes even dresses as a woman.

Russian Movies, Russian shows, themes etc

Holy resurrected thread Batman!

There are a number of Russian movies or Russian themed movies out there lately,
some of them very good and some of them, not so much. Please put your movies,
series, etc.

They can be Russian movies like OST Battle for Sevastopol with subtitles (or not)

They can be Russian Themed movies that are total American movies such as
Red Sparrow or Enemy at the Gates.

They can be an Amazon or Netflicks series.

I want to be broad in scope EXCEPT that Borat is forbidden!

Russian Series Night Swallows
« Reply #2 on: October 24, 2020, 05:52:28 AM »
Angel Eyes and I are watching Night Swallows. It's a series in Russian with subtitles,
about the young women who flew missions in planes with open cockpits that look like
they belong in WW1 with the missions mostly at night. It's available on Amazon Prime

They have to fight the evil Germans along with their vindictive camp political officer
who is always looking for people to file reports about. It's based on a true story about
an amazing group of women who flew over a thousand missions each.

When Angel Eyes and I watch a movie where something that defies belief happens, I
explain it as "it's Hollywood". We are on episode 6 and there have been a few moments
where we looked at each other and said "it's Russian Hollywood"

Night Swallows

On 8th October 1941, Stalin issued a secret order forming a female aviation unit. Known later as the
46th "Taman" Guards Night Bomber Aviation Regiment. A unit like this had never existed before. The
most highly decorated female unit in the Soviet Air Force, each pilot had flown over 1000 missions by
the end of the war with twenty-three pilots awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union.

Starring   Tatyana Arntgolts, Elizaveta Nilova, Denis Nikiforov
Subtitles   English [CC]
Audio languages  Русский

Season 1 included with Prime

Most 'Russian' actresses are more active in Western movies.

While I am not sure this is the sort of film you are seeking, but the 'Russian Ark' now perhaps two decades old is still amazing.

There is also an interesting French film 'Dans les forêts de Sibérie' which takes place along the shore of Lake Baikal. I understand that Y. V. Sidikhin an actor in the above film is active in both the Soviet and post Soviet period in films.

I seem to recall an actress in The Soprano's was Russian and than there is the mother & daughter Jovovich's.
