MrsShadow still wonders about why people produce alcohol-free beer.  ;D

That is a good question. It seems to me that it is because at many social situations when there is drinking that some people to do not want to stand out and order nothing or coffee so they order NA beer. There are times drinkers feel self conscious about their own drinking but will not notice you as long as you have a bottle in your hand or on the table at a restaurant.
But as for having a NA beer at home alone while watching a football game I am not sure.

ChiGuy, I have a low tolerance to alcohol so two beers would give me a buzz so in social situations I observe a limit of one beer or two vodka shots and after that my glass has some sort of sparkling water, 7-up, etc.  :D

Kvas is different but then the alcohol content is low.

Then it is reasonable to assume that you never "KVASIL" heavily (hit the bottle)  :D
Derived from the noun kvas, the verb kvasit' --- when used as slang --- means "to bend one's elbow".

Ghost, when I bend the elbow there is usually a fork or spoon in my hand.  :D

Mendy and I have explained the main reason why non-alcohol beer is produced. Some people simply have a low tolerance for alcohol.

People can choose to drink the non-alcohol beer for any number of reasons:

-They like the taste of beer (but not the alcohol-related effects)
-They want to still look like they 'belong at the party'.
-They think it looks cool to hold a bottle/glass of beer.
etc. etc.

"MrsShadow still wonders about why people produce alcohol-free beer.  ;D "

It's very similar to why people produce de-caffeinated coffee.

Poor Mendy  :D Bending the elbow with a fork in your hand, this must have put too much strain on your joints. Try one vodka shot and квашеная капуста/sour cabbage (perfectly going with vodka), they are used in Russia and Ukraine to reduce the strain on shoulders  ;D

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Good stuff. I have found that no matter which vegetables, salo or bread, more than 2 small shots of vodka (and he rare times I have vodka I prefer Русский стандарт), I'd do better to drink the juice from the cabbage, pickled tomatoes, etc.   :D

First one is a valid reason, second and third describe somebody with far more serious problems then alcohol intolerance.   ::)

This is an interesting topic to discuss by the way.
"Ты меня уважаешь?" problem when you are forced to drink to look like you are belong to the party.
99% of my female friends (RW) I know personally don't drink much, maybe 1-3 glasses of wine from time to time.
But I have an old friend that lives very close to my parents' place. We used to be classmates and even "best friends" when we were kids, we are still friends and she is very supportive, the only problem I have with her is the fact that she comes from a family of "workers" that you can see in many Soviet movies of the 50-ies or 60-ies. And it is normal in their family to have loud parties with heavy drinking. I am always invited to those parties  and they all are very friendly and always set up a party when they know I am in Russia or have Birthday or some other significant event but they all drink too much and I can't afford drinking that much but I am pushed to drinking with everybody every time I go. I tried to invite her to restaurants where we both would have a cocktail with a nice meal but it's not the way she used to celebrate, even after those meetings she is trying to go to the store, get something "for the table" and finish the celebration at home. As a result I use social newtwork to stay friends with her but I avoid meeting her in person, it has been 2 months since I came and she doesn't know I am here.

Speaking of serious problem . . .

Man dies and goes to hell.

He first walks into a bar and sees all the men sitting around with a bottle of beer in their hands and a beautiful woman on their lap.

Guy walks up to one guy and says:  "Is this really hell?"
Second man says: "Yes, it is."

First guy is thinking, this isn't so bad.
He keeps looking  around, and then blurts out:  "Wait a minute, these  bottles of beer don't even have a hole in them!"

Second guy says (sadly):  "Yes, and neither does she."
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
