Since RussianWind asked this on another thread we may as well poll it.

Ladies are welcome to vote on how they met their husbands.

You're right but the contention usually comes between the VM and VO and I can't really think of any foreign visitor permutation that didn't fit either of those.

Thank you SJ. Forget about writing, the prime question is if you met one woman in your trip or many.

My first ex was VM, my second ex was VO, next should be a blind date for purity of experiment  :P

SJ- i agree,,

but there are so many variables..
some have certainly done WNVM going simply to the agency and using it as they first were intended
"introduction agencies" , like "its just lunch" in the USA.

the older marraige agencies existed before the net was popular, had catalogs,
but really did operate more on an "introductions"level before the advent of the big money maker of internet keyboard romeo income, which most quickly morphed into..
and now it is changing further with s0 many more sites like mamba etc..and more people using messenger skype or ICQ than in the past.

dave13s example of WMVM,,but his wife wasn't one he wrote to,,is a classic example..

i remember from the older board almost an equal number of marriages from no prior contact..
so it does happen, just like normal dating...

certainly times have changed, and its a good poll....

i'm just pointing out the poll done with this group vs a lot of guys that are married but no longer post here , would likely be different results reflecting the changing times.
i know about 6 or 7 without thinking too hard that were write none ,just go visit,
from back then, and are still married.

I see your point. Then I hope those that think they don't fit into either category will not feel too left out. ;)

no, not too hurt or left out..:)

and well,  my ex was a visit many,,and i don't blame her

that WOVO or WMVM shoe is often directed at the men, like the RW would never put up with it..
,but is not always the case..!!

some RW have enough suitors local and foreign ,
and why waste time with the high percent of keyboard romeos if your dance card is full by men
you can meet and see who they are in person?

i find the oft stereotyping of this as black and white  amusing in light of women i met there
in similar situation to my ex's..

there are a lot of personalities, and a lot of different situations.

Another good poll to make is how many failed WOVO/WMVM trips a guy has done. 1,2,3,4,etc..? Then we could compare success to number of failures.

Having searched a little longer than most guys I tried a lot of different approaches.

I guess the worst was WNDT   (write none do big agency tour)

Second worst results were WMVO,   Making a trip to meet one woman is a real crapshoot.  You can get lucky but the odds are much better you will waste a lot of time and money.

I guess overall I was WTVH (write thousands visit hundreds, but that includes the ladies on the tours.

Mostly I tried to visit 2-4 ladies on a trip and spend 2-3 days with each.  Usually I was only visiting one in a city so it didn't create a lot of problems.   If anyone asked if I was meeting other ladies I was honest about it but I never felt it was dishonest not to volunteer the information if they didn't ask me.  Of those who asked no one ever decided not to meet me but of course if they had I would have respected that and not tried to change their mind.  Someone who wants to put claims and restrictions on someone they have never met would not likely be the woman for me anyway.

I only did one trip where I was using agencys to meet 3-4 women a day and that was when I went on Jack's tour and to be honest about it, I was rather impressed with how that went and regretted not trying it before.

I think there is always a bit of luck involved and anything can work and we are all different enough that what is right for one won't be right for another.

Interesting, the WOVO option is leading by a 4-to-1 ratio  :o

                        WOVO

I got into this being very skeptical about my chances for success. On my first trip over I went with the attitude that if my meeting with Ira didn't work out then I was going to have a first rate vacation and come back happy no matter what.

for me anyway.

I can understand that for some people a VO trip just doesn't work. Do you think it's because you weren't able to gauge compatibility very well without a face to face or was it for some other reason?

Yes, SJ, I think that is pretty close.   In most cases it was things that did not come out in long correspondence no matter how intense of long that became clear very quickly in the first meeting, sometimes within an hour of being face to face.

In one case she turned out to be a total alcoholic, in another she spent a big part of her time yelling at her family and I am sure life with her would have had me being yelled at constantly, in another the gal was totally wacky.  Sometimes it was chemistry on the mental level that just didn't exist face to face.   The letters were fine but perhaps the photos were 10 years old and 40 pounds before.   Women won't tell you things like this in their letters.  You can only find out with observation.

Thanks for the poll. I have never understood how a man can visit many women on one trip and not lie to any of them. Don't the same guys who visit many women in one trip get hurt because a woman did not continue communications after what the man thought was a delightful visit. How is it different for the woman? It is just my opinion that WMVM treats the process more like a business decision and not a matter of the heart.

Good thread/Poll, SJ. Placed my vote yesterday.

I was curious and I'm not sure if anyone asked yet, but the topic question simply keyed in between VM/VO without the distinction if the visits were the first and only time, or how many time the process (trip) was/were repeated/done..

To be honest I am more attracted to women who are not overweight.   I have no problem with falling in love with someone and marrying them and then they gain 40 pounds.   Actually I did meet and have interest in a few women who would not be considered skinny by any means.

When I mentioned that I did have one person in mind from one of my first trips ever.   A gal from Moscow had written to me and sent me photos that were "cute" not beautiful but there was some appeal.   I do think they were her H.S. photos and 15 or more years old.   I felt a little bad.   When I met her she told me she had lost 25 pounds in the past month knowing I was coming and in reality she could have used another 25 but whatever had been cute about her looks was long gone.  She was a nice person but for me there was just nothing there and I felt bad about her effort.

When you love someone you accept them the way they are, the good and the bad.
