No, I sing bass ;D.That's the end of the line, we have no extant scores of Roman or pre-Christian Greek music, although we know the structure of the latter's modal music and its diatonic scales, later adopted and modified by the Roman church:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_mode

The Ambrosian hymnody owes its name to St. Ambrose, bishop and patron of Milan (337/340–397 AD) celebrated on 7th December, the day La Scala opens its operatic season. The Father of Church-song is officially credited authorhsip of these hymns:

Although I have some doubts that the above examples adhere to the original. Ambrose is considered to have been influenced by Byzantine and Syrian hymns: You may have noticed how my previous example (Ecce quam bonum et jocundum) sounds more Oriental ;).

Very nice.  Thank you, the history and the connections of people over time I find fascinating.

A classic set.  I had never seen this version before.  The video tells the story.  Thanks!

And welcome back dude.  Nice to see you again.

Ya, he dumped Mia for Soon Yi.  I think it was the 34 year age difference not the dissonant preferences that was behind that deal.

On the groove mood...tops on the Bust-a-Move all time list for me:

MJ

I feel very fortunate to have seen this man performed at least once. I never really had a full grasp of how deep his musical talents were and what went behind their performances until I saw "This Is It". A once-in-a-lifetime talent. MJ's amazing.

"Down By The River"

Be on my side,
I'll be on your side,
baby
There is no reason
for you to hide
It's so hard for me
staying here all alone
When you could be
taking me for a ride.

Yeah, she could drag me
over the rainbow,
send me away
Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river,
Dead, oh, shot her dead.

You take my hand,
I'll take your hand
Together we may get away
This much madness
is too much sorrow
It's impossible
to make it today.

Yeah, she could drag me
over the rainbow,
send me away
Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river,
Dead, oh, shot her dead.

Be on my side,
I'll be on your side,
baby
There is no reason
for you to hide
It's so hard for me
staying here all alone
When you could be

Yeah, she could drag me

Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river,
Dead, oh, shot her dead.

CORI DEGLI ALPINI
Here's a genre I don't think many of you are familiar with, that of the choirs of our Alpine troops. Originally founded in 1872, our Alpini are

the oldest active mountain infantry in the world

wearing their characteristic raven-feathered soft hat - officers wear a white eagle feather.

The following solemn Signore delle cime (Lord of the peaks) is often sung during funeral services of our mountain people.

Okay one more... and like the rest... I think it is important to listen to the words.  It is not my favorite version of it, but it is still good.

A seldom dissonant Francis Poulenc in Les animaux modèles (ballet, 1941):

Ya, I agree with you.  Dissonance: it's the sound that sets the fight or flight mechanism into play.  In the hands of a skilled composer it becomes an instrument that complicates a piece, setting the senses on edge.  Most often though it's just the sound and fury, signifying nothing but still stirring up the asinine element, at least until the song is over.

Poulenc is undiscovered territory for me so I appreciated the link.  Some how it made me think of Schumann:

At the end is the famous Traumerei.
