:D

Okay... before even my time.  But you prove my point.  We all have a unique way of looking at things.  And I listen to them all!  The hard rock, the ancient chants, the obtuse opinions, and even the country music.

I do love this thread.  Thanks Sandro!  Peace Dude!  (my vernacular... damn So Cal childhood)

Got to love it.... well you don't, but I do.  ;)

In this Big Star cover, Elliot Smith sings about love at the age of 13. What a tragic age to find love...I mean, she's not even 14! (or maybe he's 13 and she's 14...which would be ok).

In A Gadda Da Vita...brings back memories of spinning around the room in a dervish like trance.  One of my all time favorites.

And Gene Krupa... One of the best drummers of all time, if not THE best.  Wasn't there a movie made about him?  I seem to remember it...

The Gene Krupa Story (1959):

Krupa played the drums on the soundtrack for the film, and for the sequences in which actor Sal Mineo plays the drums.

MUSICAL ODDITIES
Music & Astrology

Gustav Holst (born Gustavus Theodor von Holst in Gloucestershire, 1874–1934) was an English composer of Swedish extraction (by way of Latvia and Russia), looking like a cross between Woody Allen and Michael Caine ;D:

He is most famous for his orchestral suite The Planets, in 7 movements:

1. Mars, the Bringer of War
2. Venus, the Bringer of Peace
3. Mercury, the Winged Messenger
4. Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity
5. Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age
6. Uranus, the Magician
7. Neptune, the Mystic

The Dean sent me this link. The music video is a parody of a day in the life of some badboys. Good tune..

As The Dean said, Feminist beware! . The ending is pretty funny!

The blonde girl in the video is the protoype gal that gave me the incentive to go out and play everyday when I was single knowing if I didn't, then someone else will instead of me...Always better be me, right?! An attitude many of our boyz should never leave home without.

This version might run a bit smoother...

...couldn't say 'I love it'
Yeah it's definitely sexist.

This one is well filmed [for a mediocre tune]....

Somewhere on this forum, though it may not be in this thread, is a video of a song where the singer is female and at one point she is lying on an operating table surrounded by people.  I think the song is a satire.  Anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?

CLASSICAL IN SOUND TRACKS #1

This thread has been dormant for a while, so I thought I'dd add a new angle ;), starting with two contributions by Arcangelo Corelli (1653–1713):

<br>Used in Ridley Scott's The Duellists (1977)
...and the Adagio from his Concerto Grosso Op.6 No. 8
("Christmas Concerto"
).

Peter Weir used many classical pieces in his Master and Commander (2003), including works by:

Luigi Boccherini (1743–1805) and Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741):

La musica notturna delle strade di Madrid No. 6   -   Concerto for Four Violins in B minor, 3rd Movement

And W.A. Mozart (1756–1791):

Violin Concerto No. 3 'Straussburg' K.215, 3rd Movement

CLASSICAL IN SOUND TRACKS #2

I think few of you, if any, may have seen this BBC TV series - it ran from 1971 to 1980:

Its title theme was a beautiful and haunting melody from Aram Kachaturian's ballet Spartacus (1954).

Of course, one could NOT forget to mention a film ENTIRELY tracked with classical music, Walt Disney's 1940 Fantasia :D. A few extracts:

Opera "A Life for the Tsar" or "Ivan Susanin" by Mikhail Glinka. The clip is Act 2. Poland - Polish nobles celebrate and look forward to defeat the Russian Army and Moscow. A messenger brings news that the contract (by Poland) army has been defeated by the Russian Army and the Polish detached force near Moscow has been besieged as well.  Poles vow to take vengeance on the Russian Army and overthrow the Tsar Mikhail Romanov.

I like Glinka's operas. I think you can find it on CD in the music stores.

Lily, below is a link to mp3 files of the opera

Wow, OlgaH, thank you so much!!  :-*  and the quality is excellent!

In fact, I never heard this wonderful opera in full. I just listened to this Polish part.

Glinka is wonderful.
