Music I love
« on: May 23, 2009, 01:48:37 PM »
Simply links to youtube vids of great music..

I start this off with a new selection from an amazing Mexican group called Cafe Tacuba.

I find the song mysterious, sensual and incredibly beautiful.  I am sure they will win another Latin Grammy for this one.

please post your favs.  :)

here is the translation...

You are what I want the most in this world, that's you (that's what you are),
my deepest thoughts you also are,
just tell me what to do, here you have me.

You're the first thing when I wake up, that's you (that's what you are),
the very thing that is needed in my life when you're not coming,
the only thing, the precious, which inhabits my mind today.

What more can I tell you, maybe I lied to you without a reason,
but what I regret today is that without you I'm dead,
so, you are what I want the most in this world, that's you (that's what you are).

You are the time that I share, that's you (that's what you are),
what people promise when they want each other,
my salvation, my hope and my faith.

I'm the one who wants to love you like no one else,
I'm the one who will give you support day by day, day by day,
the one who will give you his life, that's me.

Here I am by your side and I'm waiting here hoping till the end.
You haven't even imagined that I've been waiting for you
because you are what I love in this world, that's you (that's what you are),
what I think of in every minute, that's you (that's what you are),
what I care for the most in this world, that's you (that's what you are),

the incomparable Silvio Rodriguez.. and what I believe is the best love song ever written..

If only the leaves wouldn't touch your body when they fall
So you couldn't turn them to glass.
If only the miracle of the rain falling over your body
Would cease to be.
If only the moon could rise without you.
If only the earth wouldn't kiss your steps.

If only there was an end to your constant stare
The exact word, the perfect smile.
If only something--a blinding light,
a shot of snow--
would suddenly wipe you out of my mind.
If only death at least would deliver me
From seeing you every moment, in every vision:
If only I couldn't sing about you too.

If only the leaves wouldn't touch your body when they

But this is what I still prefer, 50 years after I heard it for the first time:
1st movement, Allegro
2nd movement, Adagio un poco mosso

Thanks for your concern Eric, but I already had plenty of that since 1957, and don't find much new and inspiring after things like these:
How did Anastasia manage to get here, too :( ?

And you call that rock'n'roll :o :-\? Sorry, I find it VERY unimpressive, but you see my problem is that of déja entendu, I already heard dozens of pieces like that, and complexity may just be an escape route when one hasn't really much 'meat' to offer.

On the other hand classical music, with its centuries of existence and hundreds of composers who produced thousands of original pieces, still offers me surprises to this day ;).

Olga, if you want something romantic, how about:
;)

A marginal musical notation: this was the period when accompaniment was ALWAYS in terzine (Ta-ta-ta, Ta-ta-ta).

Sandro your ears are biased!  The Incubus piece is probably truly categorized as alternative or post r and r but I think if you had a look at the score and the methods of layering you would be surprised at the depth of the connection to the classics.

I would like to know where you heard dozens of pieces like that though.. in the amplified music genre they come off as pretty original to me and have a considerable number of emulators who aren't nearly as good.

Definitely, the result of some 60 years of listening to good music ;).

Not surprising, and I don't like them for the same reason I don't like modern classical music, with its rhythmical microcells and all the brainy mumbo-jumbo that simply smells of CONTRIVED to me.

Cannot list them, fortunately I forget them as soon as the painful experience of hearing them is over ;D.

you might like this one.. the man is classically trained in opera and supposedly has 9 or 12 ocatves.. but he rocks and is quite absurd at times.. very Zappa influenced.  Also, I think this live performance might have been in Italy..

YOU are absurd :D, NO human voice can span that range. Just to give you an idea, a piano covers about 7.5 octaves with its 88 keys. The Guinness Book of Records lists :

Women: Georgia Brown (Brazil), 8 octaves.
Men: Nicola Sedda (Italy),  8.5 octaves.

Lilac Negro

Where are you now? Who kisses your fingers?
Where did your little Chinese Lee leave?
It seems that you loved a Portuguese after,
Or maybe you left with Malayan...

I saw you so close for the last time.
A car whirled away you along the streets.
And I dream that in the brothels of San Francisco
a lilac Negro helps you with your coat.
