Ukraine Economy vs. Russian Economy - whose will crack first?
« on: August 22, 2022, 01:38:03 PM »
So it's looking more and more like the Russo-Ukrainian War conflict may not end up being decided on the battlefield but on the economy. From reviews of news articles as of today both Russia's economy and Ukraine's economy seem to be approaching dire straits. Unemployment way up in both and businesses shuttering and going busy. Odds are one or the other or perhaps both will collapse before long and thereby folding any ongoing military operation. Here are a couple of articles one for the Russian economy and the other for the Ukrainian economy:

Russia:

Ukraine:

Would be interested to hear members thoughts on this issue and how they think economically it might end for both?

Good exchange rate on the Ukrainian Ghrivna to the British Pound at the moment:

1 GBP = 43.76 UAH

Highest it's been in a long while, has also been around 45 UAH to the Pound so if you did go to Ukraine now you'd get good value for your GBP.

1 GBP = 70.45 Russian Rouble.

Not such a good exchange rate for the British Pound against the Russian Rouble, but they had interest rates put way up to reverse the rapid decline in the value of their currency.

1 USD = 37.19 UAH

Good rate of exchange for the US Dollar also.

Many businesses in Ukraine price their services and goods in dollars, then translate into hryvnia.

So as the exchange rate goes against the hryvnia, the prices stated in hryvnia rise to maintain stable returns in terms of dollars.

Inflation rises in a country whether its currency falls because of free market actions or the national government taking direct actions to devalue the currency.
