Ukraine’s Leader Is Being Broken by the System He Vowed to Crush
Ukraine’s president is losing a battle with the enduringly murky political
system he was elected to eradicate.

The current standoff pits Zelenskiy against the Constitutional Court,
which has struck down anti-graft laws that are key to the flow of billions
of dollars of foreign aid and the visa-free travel Ukrainians enjoy to the
European Union. Despite speculation swirling over the allegiances of the
court’s judges, a move to fire them all has gone nowhere, highlighting
the president’s dwindling authority.

Was in Kiev when Z was being sworn in. There was popular appeal and a feeling of new hope I got the impression. Many people around who had gathered to see. I didn't have the time/focus to hang around, there was security checks at the entrances Marinsky Park section in front of the palace that I thought it best not to risk interrogation as a foreigner by passing through. To be honest I always thought Zelensky was about of a pretty boy. That is often enough in the west but that doesn't seem to count for as much in Ukraine/FSU I think where it's the strong men, ie Oligarchs are king.

In a way though it may sound bad I'm not sure I would like to see Ukraine change. The pretty boy wins out mentality and organised all too civilised and boring society mentality of the west is what I go there to avoid.
