Skype or not to Skype
« on: July 12, 2018, 10:45:01 PM »
First I’m not really all that tech savvy but I like using Skype for face to face meetings.

I have been communicating off and on for a while with a girl in St. Petersburg and it's beginning to look promising. Unfortunately she knows little English. Skype would have bypassed this but she cannot use Skype where she lives for reasons that are unclear to me. I know that there must be alternatives but not sure what they are. I suppose that I could call her on her cell phone but as for the translation part I don't know. Maybe there is another approach to consider? Thanks!
Life is just an empty room.

Viber
Whatsapp
Google DUO
Telegram
Facetime (if you both have Iphone)

99,998% ~isch of all women in FSU uses Viber and that you can use on both Phone and computer.

Skype has been abandoned by most people these days, Microsoft took a perfectly good program and made it .. not better.. :)

Telegram

Sadly, BANNED in Russia..it is THE best in poor internet conditions

WhatsApp usage has surpassed Viber in Russia, by miles

Not with the folks, I know ... Whilst I agree MS seem intend on ruining the prog ...  It is still the prog of choice for more senior ladies - when used on a PC / Mac

DUO is great - but still has issues with feedback / noise cancellation

WhatsApp Web doesn't allow video calls - only from the phone

Viber seems the first to lose video

Skype manages to hold on to video the longest

Not according to my experience, and that is from what I am referring to, not analytics of installed instances.
... but to be honest my experience is mostly with Ukraine and Belarus.

Where the number one used app is Viber across all ages, in my experience, and that is at least ~100 women in different ages, maybe 10 have suggested Whatsapp, the rest Viber.
All my g/f friends uses Viber and don't even have Whatsapp..

I also have (had) a lot of contact with different businesses that used Viber primarily, Flowershops, Airlines, Hotels, Airbnb hosts.. etc etc..

No matter what, these are all substitutes to Skype. And even if Telegram is banned, surprisingly many still use it even in Russia.

Quite ....  Russia is 140+ million far more than BY and UA combined ;)

Does viber STILL insist in making a new account if presented with a 'new' sim ?   Can't be bothered to test ;)

Telegram has workarounds for Russia - and they don't always work ...As ISPs have FSB monitoring kit, I'd not recommend using Telegram in Russia ((

eich, be careful. If person doesnt want make videocalls or every time find reason not to have it, she easily can be scammer. As previously was said, try to use Viber, WhatsApp ,telegram, etc. As I know, telegram works in Russia. They wanted ban Telegram, but finally it didnt happen. In any case, Russians are still able to use it without issues.

INCORRECT

In the earliest days of the ban - it refused to work on Yota / Megafon / Rostelekom

Telegram constantly adjust the routing and the Russian authorities respond more slowly ...  ;)

Whether I agree with the ban - or not - I think it unwise to use what the Kremlin say is "a platform for terrorists" in Russia

With VPN everything works perfectly. Even old people nowadays know what it is and how to use it. I can tell about Ukraine. When VK, Odnoklassniki and many other sites got banned, people just downloaded VPN. Now this sites are used by not less people than before ban.
When Russia tried block Telegram, bunch of sites stopped work, but Telegram continued. So, finally idea of banning Telegram finished with fail and seems, battle is lost and war continues.

It's actually easy to learn what kind of girl a guy is talking to on the phone without video. Bad girls talk differently than good girls. They can try to talk like a good girl but since they have no experience, it's like them trying to ride a bike for the first time.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

I might suggest both having 2 smartphones. Each of you will have one phone for skype(or another app) and the other phone with a voice translation app . I would do this for three reasons
1) If she is serious, she will borrow an extra phone for the afternoon
2) I think you need to see if she matches up to her photos
3) To build Repore

No Viber has changed that, you can now change the number if getting a new one.

Telegram works fine for many many many Russians, ban or no ban. They also still use it frequently, which you should know, since you 'know' all things Russian, even better then Russians themselves sometimes.

So it seems people living in Russia don't listen to your recommendations. maybe you need to make it more clear to them.

I DO live in RU half the year and observe what medium folks use to contact me ... WhatsApp - WAY ahead

GOOD .. it was one reason I stuck - so long with Skype - Thank you.

I certainly DO know - working in telecoms and networks - and - once more re-iterate that using it - esp. with a VPN is prescribed by Federal Law and could be a silly thing to do ....

So it seems people living in Russia don't listen to your recommendations. maybe you need to make it more clear to them.

Much easier to just say, "Moby - as you spend more time there and it is your biz - you might know better" ....;)  I don't advise anyone - other than my beloved - and on here - to be careful using Telegram.

It really is so v.good in poor internet coverage areas

WhatsApp seems to be the default option. Seems to be what the girls ask for when they're interested in you.
