A reminder that life is too short and the good always die too young. Rest in peace David!

I talked to Ira, his wife, briefly last Saturday. I wasn't able to reach her again, but did talk to her son a few hours after he passed. As would be expected, they are upset and saddened. When things die down here, I will print the comments and mail to them.

I'm sorry to hear about his death. I didn't know him, but read some of his posts and actually thought about him just today and that he hadn't posted anything for some time.

He was certainly a good person. His philosophy of Paying it Forward is enough proof of that.

I found this old posting (1998) from RWL to be reflective of the person I would come to respect as I set off on, at that time, an uncertain journey.

"> Questions: Is diabetes considered serious enough to reconsider a
> relationship with a RW?

  John:

In my opinion, you should consider carefully whether the additional demands of
managing diabetes are worth it. All cases of altruism aside, this is the time to
make such a decision.

Before anyone decides to flame me, understand that I have put my search for a RW
on hold while I get a grip on my suddenly escalated case of adult onset diabetes
and the associated diabetic neuropathy which has made walking and stairclimbing
a challenge in recent months. I may have caught it in time, and am undergoing a
therapy which may be able to reverse the condition, but if so it will take six
months to a year, minimum.

In dealing with this, I have determined that it would be unfair to ask a lady to
share the challenges associated with this condition, particularly since if I am
unsuccessful I'll probably have a severely shortened life expectancy.

Good luck in making your choice.

Sincerely,

David Neeley"

I learned a lot from David without him ever really knowing what he had taught me. Rest in peace.

Indeed sad when a respected member embarks on the ultimate journey.

He leaves behind a wealth of information and personal experience, here and elsewhere, from a very unique viewpoint - living where many of us only dare to travel, delivered as only a true Gentleman can.

Wow, I am shocked also. You always hear as we age that health issues come to the forefront but you never think of death...it just creeps up all around you!!

RIP David...I voice that will continue to be heard even though he is not with us.......

Big boys aren't supposed to cry  , but this news has come as a severe shock after what seemed to be a fairly good recovery from his recent surgery.  I never met David, but in every respect I would have looked up to him (he was several inches taller than me!).  As so many have said, he had wonderful insight into so many aspects of the FSU, and of the "MOB" business.

We had exchanged a couple of PMs, and bantered occasionally in threads, and I always enjoyed reading his posts, whatever the topic.  He will be very sadly missed, by all of his families - Ira and Feodor in Donetsk, his first family in the USA, and this one at RWD.

Rest in peace. :flowers:

I am quite shocked.

David was one of the most articulate and intelligent members and I valued his participation very much.  I was so happy he decided to join RWD.   What a loss.  :(

His wife sent a couple of photos so those interested could see to whom they spoke, and whom he spoke of.

Thank you, Mobob.  I'm glad to see that the Silver Fox looks almost exactly as I pictured him!

mobob-

Thank you.

David and Irina is such a beautiful looking couple. He slightly resemble my late step-Dad.

Godspeed.

Indeed sad news. Though I had no personal communication with David, I found his many posts of much value. David will be missed by many.

Sad indeed, a fundamentally decent person whom I exchanged many enjoyable notes with over time.
