Hey Guys,
So, here's my story.
43 yr. > American > Male > Divorced (13 years ago) > No kids > Software/Tech Industry
I never even had a passing thought about looking online for a lady from/in another country. Then a series of unrelated things happened, and I ended up on RussianCupid.com looking for a Russian/Ukrainian lady. Basically, I was just up watching Netflix one night a few months ago, and I got sucked in to one of those 20 episode "World War II in Color" documentaries. After a week of watching every episode, I walked away thinking about how I never even know that THAT MANY PEOPLE from Russia died in WWII. Then a few days later, I was watching YouTube videos. Yeah... COVID times are not exciting times. I must have still had the WWI doc on my mind, because I zeroed in on a PBS Frontline 2 part documentary about the history of Vladimir Putin. I am about the least political person you could ever meet. So please understand that I was only watching it, because it was all so interesting to me, just from a narrative point of view.
Anyway... then I think my YouTube algorithm became a little Russian-centric, because I started watching a few Russian YouTubers, like NFKRS and Bald and Bankrupt. Check em out if you've never heard of em. Some of it's pretty funny. So... I decided I'd like to try to learn the Russian language. Btw... I am American, but I moved to Germany when I was 19, and lived there (married a German girl) for 10 years. I can speak German just as well as I speak English. I can also speak French and Italian. So... I'm just into languages. And I've always known that Russian is a beast. So, I started looking into it. Through that search, I found out about a social media site called <vk dot com>. That website allows you to search for friends by their country and city, so I looked in my own city, here in the US, because I wanted to see if I could meet some Russian speakers in my area who might have a meetup group or something.
I met a woman in my city from Kiev. While asking her some questions about Ukraine, Russia, the language(s), etc. she told me that she was 40 years old and recently (2 yrs prior) had married an American man that she'd met online. I have to say... a light bulb went off in my head. I asked her how, where, when... etc. She told me they'd met on RussianCupid dot com, and off I went!!! I signed up for RussianCupid, and I just started after it. For the first 30 minutes, I thought it was amazing in almost an unreal level. So many beautiful women. And they reply!!! They all seemed as interested in meeting me, as I was in meeting them. But now... 4-5 week later... I realize I need some advice.
I won't get all into that here. But... needless to say... I now see that website in a different way. So... I found this forum to hopefully shed some light on a few things, and help me reform my image of the whole idea. I am an optimist, almost to a fault. So... I'm willing to give it another try.
Anyway... thanks guys!
