This isn't about Kerry or McCain, their honesty or intellect.  They are just the messengers. If you were a politician , you should have faith in your intelligence agency more than the belief Assad isn't the kind of guy that would use chemical weapons.

Our intelligence tells us there are good people in Syria and we should not abandon them. If there is a chance Assad should fall, we should assist the good rebels so they have a chance in running the country. The alternative of doing nothing are  worse. America's interest there is keeping peace in the Middle East and protecting Israel but if you care about the Christian minority there then you should be on board with locating and assisted the good people of Syria.

Possible U.S. intervention in Syria has nothing to do with Syria, helping Al Queada rebels or anything else. It has everything to do with being the bitch and muscle for the Saudis. Kerry or McCain's honesty and intellect? Puleeze

Bandar's flirtation with Putin is cosmetics.  The Nobel Peace Prize winner is alienating our allies.  Russia has nothing to offer Saudi Arabia except to engender doubt in its ally Iran and  the middle to the Messiah.  Quite frankly, there is not enough of that for the President.

Assad forces battle with al-Qaeda-linked rebels trying to capture ancient Christian town north of Damascus, activists report. Al-Qaeda-linked fighters desecrate churches in seized areas
Syrian government forces battled Tuesday with al-Qaeda-linked rebels trying to capture an ancient Christian town north of Damascus, activists and the state media said.

The assault on Sadad, some 95 kilometers (60 miles) north of Damascus, began at dawn Monday, said the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Local police fought back the initial assault and were reinforced by the army.

The Jabhat al-Nusra, or Nusra Front, appear to have targeted Sadad because of its strategic location near the main highway north of Damascus, rather than because it is Christian. But hard-liners among the rebels are hostile to the minority group, who tend to support the government of President Bashar Assad, and other al-Qaeda-linked fighters have damaged and desecrated churches in areas they have seized.

Even the Kurds in Northern Iraq aren't open to minority Christian populations who have lived in the region for centuries.

Al Arabiya: http://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/middle-east/2013/10/22/Al-Qaeda-seeks-Gaddafi-s-leftover-uranium-and-missiles-.html

Quote
An unstable country on the brink of civil war is not all former Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi left behind after his death last year. A vast collection of weapons remains in an abandoned desert warehouse in southern Libya, The Times reported on Tuesday.

The arsenal reportedly includes 4,000 surface-to-air missiles, each capable of downing a passenger jet, and thousands of barrels of uranium yellowcake. An inventory collected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) accounted for 6,400 yellowcake barrels.

Bharuddin Midhoun Arifi, a former human trafficker and now commander of 2,000 fighters in the city of Sabha, was one of the main inheritors of the regime’s abandoned weapon reserves.

“Sometimes I’m afraid that al-Qaeda will get me. Other times I fear that the Americans or French or British will fire missiles from the sea to destroy all I control.” Arifi told the Times. He claims that al-Qaeda had most recently offered 1 million dollars for some of the weapons, an offer which Arifi says he turned down. “I told them…this belonged to my government.” Rows of the mortars and rockets stacked in crates, however, suggest some of the weapons have been shipped to Syria, along with hundreds of Libyan’s who have joined the rebel forces fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

No actions were taken to remove the uranium, which after intensive processing could become weapons grade, despite the U.N. mission in Libya suggesting its removal. Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammad Abdul Aziz echoed similar sentiments but with no avail.

The most pressing matter to Western officials, however, is the surface-to-air missile getting into the hands of al-Qaeda, an unchecked power in the region enjoying its new freedom in a post-Qaddafi Libya.

Israeli warplanes on Tuesday destroyed a shipment of missiles that were to be delivered to Hezbollah near the Lebanese-Syrian frontier, according to the Kuwait newspaper Al-Jarida.

The paper’s story, which quotes a senior Israeli official, has not been confirmed by any other news source. There was also no word on whether the attack took place on Lebanese or Syrian soil.

Israel has reportedly launched at least three attacks against convoys that were said to be delivering arms to the south Lebanon-based Shi’ite organization.

The Kuwaiti daily also reported last Friday that Israel has information on the location of long-range missiles transferred from Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon and is considering taking military action to destroy the weapons.

The paper, quoting an Israeli security source close to Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, reported that the remote-operated missiles, with a range of 1,500 kilomet

Has Saudi Arabia threatened to sever ties with the USA if Syria is not attacked?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2472680/Saudi-Arabia-severs-diplomatic-ties-US-response-conflict-Syria.html

As of 2013, and much in part thanks to fracking technology no matter what you think of the practice, the USA is now the world's largest producer of oil and gas. Saudi Arabia is number two.

What keeps the Saudis important to the US however is the dollar as the primary currency of the world's energy trade. They can no longer threaten with oil shortages, but the damage to the US economy over the dollar would make the Great Depression seem like a Sunday School picnic.

Its hard to argue the US side on any argument with the current president.  Julia Timashenko is in jail for a lot less yet this man walks free with an entourage of people paid to lie for him.

Now LT, other side of the aisle doesn't mean that you're calling me a Democrat, does it?

As a committed Independent for a long time I have driven my friends crazy with the mantra "I'm too intelligent to be a Democrat but not dumb enough to qualify as a Republican."

But, thank you for your kind words. This administration will do whatever the Muslim Brotherhood requires. It is no accident that several MB operatives are among the President's advisers.

You knew that was the only strategic *retaliatory* interest in Syria to begin with.  That was the deal made to curb the Sunni hostility against the US in Iraq and have them as 'allies' momentarily to help fight the Al-Qeada in Iraq.

So the 'payback' wasn't reciprocated because of Obama's bumbling of the crisis. The DC blowjob a.k.a. the royal bow down, apparently just wasn't good enough for the Saudis.

Send Biden to SA since he's not doing anything these days other than hurrying his alcohol/cocaine addicted family to the nearest rehab centers.

Then at the same time, send Kerry and Stooge McCain to Iran.

Actually, the rub and a tug with a nice spit polish at the end of the bow down wouldn't have done it either. Nothing short of the bidding of the House of Saud. Makes no difference to the Royals how many American lives are lost as long as the Arab world's tribes all understand that they are all subjects of the House of Saud.

I have to admit I was baffled as to why McCain of all folks, would want to assist Muslim Brotherhood and Al Quada in tossing out Assad. Not only that, he wanted U.S. money and lives to do it with. Made no sense to me. Obama makes an idle threat about Assad and chemical agents then, Kerry starts running his mouth and siding with who else, McCain. Politics do make strange bedfellows. Wa la! Chemical weapons are used in Syria and who looks the guiltiest? There is literally nothing the Saudis can't make happen in the ME. When you back every horse in the race you never lose

Seem to have a bit of a stutter there shadow  :D

Yes, I was aware of Obama's brother's connection to the MB. Most of which came to light in the initial ousting of Egypt's Mubarak and the MB taking control. Apparently it was "common knowledge" according to the WH Press sec Jay Carney before that but, I'd never seen it covered anywhere. Ironically, enough the mainstream media ignored it then like everything else

Yeppers. Which is why Sarah Ingram, then head of the IRS, was pseudo-fired and was immediately promoted to lead the Obamacare oversight team. Lavishly paid for by us.

It's all abut connections in this country today. Heck, why do you think Van Jones got his position in CNN?

The US has alienated a key ally in the region.  The Saudis view us as unreliable.  Pundits point to Susan Rice as the weak link.

If this leading from one's behind is the new American norm in Obama foreign policy might or allies act independent of our interests?  I can see Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan or Israel's Air Force backing the rebels.  How might Russia act?  Will they do so with Putin's knowledge and consent?  Conversely will there be a meaningful peace process brokered by Vlad the Dissident Jailer?  Saudi's Air Force is composed of debauched royalty and hardly competent.  Turkey and Israel are another story.  But the Rebels are so loathsome that backing them even military will require the issuance of clothes pines by which to pinch the noses.

What id inexcusable and disgusting is the Syrian Rebel practice of not just summary execution of prisoners and "enemy" civilians but the extrajudicial execution by ripping the hearts out of the living victims.  This something seen in West African - not in the Middle East as weird as the ME can be.
