Title: WE DID IT!!!
Post by: KenInUtah on February 19, 2020, 03:43:39 AM
Well, it's almost over!  Yesterday the wife passed her Naturalization interview and civics test!  4 years and 5 months after her arrival, all that is left is the Oath of Allegiance!  One more vote for Trump come November!

civics test!

Do you have a study guide or recommendation of how
to study for it? Angel Eyes needs to do this soon.

Big Bill, here are the 100 questions that they draw from.

http://tinyurl.com/kmlslwk (http://tinyurl.com/kmlslwk)

Ochka first read through, then each day I asked her 10 questions.
We went through the complete list about 3-4 times, including me asking her the entire 100 questions during the drive to the test.

Fascinating. It's been decades since my civic test and the study guide I remember having to rely on is nowhere near as 'easy' as this. It was a small pamphlet that wasn't structured like this, but more a comprehensive reading material. It was available in numerous languages, too.

The comprehensive pamphlets are also available and furnished by government.

The 100 question format is designed, hopefully, to insure that no one fails.
i.e. The question data base is finite.

Even worse . . . I once saw a documentary on the training program for our military men and women who are going to man the underground missile facilities and push the final buttons.

They had to take multiple choice tests, and the instructor was giving them advice on how to make 'best guesses' to questions they didn't know the answer to !!!

Gave me a nice warm feeling . . . especially when I figured our people were the best trained of all.

IMHO, I am resigned to believe no one fails the civic test. I no longer think they aim to fail people with these tests, but rather have people 'study' as a way to bring American consciousness unto those who aspire to become US citizens.

I studied hard prior to my test out of fear of failing and not become an American citizen.

Anything to study there? ;D The only thing she needs - to remember the dates out of the US, places she lived, names of senators and congressmen from your state. Almost all other questions are from the first school grade. Did it couple months ago.

It's very easy for me, I've gone online and taken practice tests.

Congratulations to you !

This is a completely false posting; and actually ridiculous.
You are confusing answers to questions in application (dates out of US, places you have lived) with questions on citizenship test (senators, congressmen).
No one learns info related to the questions on citizenship test in first grade, no matter where you were in first grade, but certainly not while living in FSU.

I have no idea how old you was when you studied this >>>> who was the first US President, who lived in America before the Europeans arrived, what ocean is on the West Coast of the United States, etc...  very complicated questions. Judging by your posts, you can never boast of your level of education. In Russia, Boston tea party and the Civil War are in 6th grade history program.

The only question not from the first grade was who is the Speaker of the House... but after years on RWD  :P it's not a problem.

No need to be as smart as a 1st grader. 5 yo Kindergarten Girl in the video in link below named Donald Trump as the current president. Amazing! If a 5 yo can do it, anybody can that's trying for citizenship. She also named in order 45 presidents within 45 seconds.

Trump has her vote.  How about Mitt?

We left Utah a few years ago.  In Tennessee now.  Mitt it a RINO.  I have as much respect for him as I do McCain - NONE

As for the test, yes there are some easy questions on there like the ones mentioned above.  Those were not asked.  The questions she got were:
1) Who was one of the writers of the Federalist Papers?
2) Name a US territory
3) What was one thing Ben Franklin was known for?
4) What is the "Rule of Law"?
5) What did the Emincipation Proclimation do?
6) Who is the Father of our Country?

She got all six right so she didnt get anymore but I'd bet out of those six questions, most Natural born citizens get  only 3 or 4 right.  The test isnt hard but not simple either.

Yes, people fail.  One of the people there with us did fail (or at least I assume she did because she came out with tears in her eyes).

As for getting the study guide, USCIS sent us one after her biometrics appointment.  Go on YouTube though and watch some of the "mock interviews".  The questions reviewing the N-400 ARE ASKED and are probably more unnerviving than the civics test.

BTW - the sentence she had to write for the writing test was easy..."Flag Day is in June"

I won't be surprised, if so. Most natural born doesn't have the same 'need or even 'urgency' for awareness of US history or government structure as do all immigrants entering to earn their citizenship grant.

That, I haven't seen, or heard about, and I've been with a lot of folks who eventually became citizens like myself over the decades. I often wondered.

One person did fail when we were there also.

She said the question asked was:  Who did John Kennedy have sex with in the White House?

She was sure she was right when replying:  Monica Lewinski.

Five years.  That seems long, yet it soon will be completed.  Congratulations.

At our ceremony. the county had set up a table to register the new citizens as voters.   No waiting other than to complete a short form.
