Hey CaptB,

I'm from the Grand Rapids area and think I've found the one. Your near one of my favorite areas as I deer hunt up near Vanderbilt about as far out in the boonies as you can get there.  Been trying to promote a convention/BBQ for those that are and have been involved in this process from Michigan some think it would be pretty cool others has been pretty cool to the whole idea.

Lived in Michigan all my life until my Russian wife moved my butt to San Diego!  I lived mostly in Oakland County but I did have a nice summer home on Lake Charlevoix.  There is a guy here from Traverse City though.

Hello,

I work in Traverse City, but I live in Leelanau Country.  There is another member who lives a few miles from me and I have met him.  Traverse City has several hundred people who immigrated from Ukraine a few years ago for religious freedom. These are Ukrainian families, not AM UW couples.

I am brand new to this and just joined a couple of days ago.  I live near Battle Creek.  I am very interested but am feeling a bit overwelmed.  I have been doing a lot of reading.

I lived in Marshall for awhile about 100 years ago and am now your neighbor over here in the Cheese Head state.

I went to college in Milwaukee many years ago.  Marquette.  Mashall is a nice town.  I will usually have my students fly from Battle Creek over to Marshall's airport to practice their touch and goes.  It is not as busy and they can get more landings done there than in Battle Creek.

When my husband and I married, he lived in Southfield and worked for the car companies.   It was quite a shock. The images of America we had seen and the reality did not match up.

The best thing was the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral is in Southfield.  It helped very much to be near my Church.

We moved to Arizona in 2005 and still have many friends in Michigan.

WOW!  How'd I miss this thread???  Must be blind...

I'm in Michigan as well...  Currently just outside of Pontiac in a town called Waterford.  Although I've lived/worked in NYC, Philli, Nashville, Phoenix and San Antonio.

The best thing was the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral is in Southfield.  It helped very much to be near my Church.

Alyona,  Do you remember where that church is in Southfield by chance?

And while I'm thinking about it...  Anyone know any AM/RW groups in Michigan by chance?  I know there is a diverse ethnic population on the east side of Detroit (Pole's for sure...)  Just curious.

I live near Walled Lake in Oakland County -- been around here for 8 years, spent most of my younger days in a small town between Grand Rapids and Traverse City (Dad still has a place on Torch Lake).

GS - I suggest you check out the Detroit area Russian Language group on meetup.com.  They meet every other Sunday in Royal Oak, with a nice mix of Americans interested in Russian language/culture and Russian-speaking immigrants.  There is a very large Ukrainian population in SE Michigan.  I was just at Summit Place in Waterford last weekend, it's not far from me.  Maybe we can hook up one of these days.

I just came across this old thread I started along time ago. The newest posts are already 4 years old. So I'll ask again so we can get current with some possible contacts.

Anyone here from Michigan? If you posted back in 2009 ....or earlier....please post again if you are still around.  I still reside in Gaylord.

Thanks,

Capt B

Do they give you Section 8 for living so close to Detroit?

Hmmm, now that's a thought. Maybe I should apply.

Larry, Congress is going to include Michiganders in the new Amnesty law: you can pay back dues, buy new fan clothing, and become Cornhusker fans!

You don't need to be completely fluent in Aksarben (the name of the official Cornhusker language is "Nebraska" spelled backwards) as long as you can say "Go Big Red!" without a New Jersey accent.

Plus your children under the age of 21 will automatically become Nebraska citizens and kids over 21 can stay on your health care plan to age 26.

There is a test, but it's easy: question number 11 for example is "What does the N on University of Nebraska Cornhusker football helmets represent?

Answer: N is for Knowledge!
