depending on how “involved” you’re going to be in this region
and the degree to which you can communicate in Russian<-->English
you might want to hire a local assistant/translator
and this would just be one of many tasks that they could perform for you
flowers, candy, etc are kinda low end presents
sorta at the level of bringing a bottle of cheap wine for a dinner date
so don’t expect someone to be overly gratified by your present
if you want to be noticed
then clothing, silk, cashmere
or simple jewelry
I used to make my own by buying inexpensive stones and settings from ebay
and make my own semi-custom pieces for a pretty low cost, and maybe 15 min of time
you could send a pic of the box on her birthday or whatever
you have to be careful with Russian customs, so hide it in something innocuous
if you don't know her ring and clothing sizes, then find out this info
