visa to Simferopol?
« on: April 23, 2014, 10:56:31 AM »
I am a British citizen, so do I need visa to go to Simferopol  (Crimea) since it belongs to Russia now?

Just visa, or letter invitation also?

Most likely the answer is yes. You should also send this question to your consulate in Russia. Although your country doesn't recognize Crimea belonging to Russia, the country in control of Crimea dictates the rules of who is allowed to enter.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

When you go there, tell them you are a British journalist and then wait for that famous Russian hospitality.

The only flights to Simferopol that are operating now go through Moscow. So go figure!

I'll cancel the idea of going to Simferopol now.

I was surprised that you even considered going there now.

Yes, did you read the travel warning? Are you interested in a woman in Crimea? Perhaps you could meet somewhere else?

If you need a visa to enter Russian Federation, then you would need one now to enter Crimea. You could get a 30 day maximum tourist visa.

If the woman you are interested in agrees to travel some where else to meet you, she might need to have her NEW Russian passport.

Many countries are not going to issue visas to Russian passport holders who live in Crimea.

Don't know the countries involved, the extent, etc.

Anyone have an update on this?

I can't find any particular info on the Norwegain embassy site in Moscow about Crimeans applying for a visa to the Schengen area. They issued a warning about Citizens going to Crimea and the eastern parts of Ukraine and wrote that if one travel to Crimea via Russia and then try to exit on the Ukraine Mainland, one can have problems because one did not enter Ukraine and have a stamp in the Passport to show.

yes, you do need a tourist visa, yes, you will need to fly to Moscow before you fly to Simpheropol, here’s a commercial web site that can help someone from the UK:

http://www.visatorussia.com

Familiarize yourself with the regulations, it’s similar to what Ukraine’s tourism rules were 20 years ago, before they got smarter and liberalized them.

BTW, if during your travel to Simpheropol you need to “use the loo”, use the one in the plane, you will be most unhappy with the one in arrivals in Simpheropol.

Just sayin’...

This is definitely a time that western tourists could be the subject of  unwanted attention by groups of very drunk young men known as “hooligans”, think Scottish football match and the home team lost and you’re wearing a t-shirt with the opposing team’s logo, so be alert and avoid...

Just one bit of advice from a guy who’s been going to the FSU for 20 years, dated a bunch of women there, and married one 15 years ago.  If a Russian woman is “in to you” you will know it without a doubt, if you have a doubt about whether she is, then she’s not.  That simple matey!

Bon Chance!

"The Ukrainian passport would be also required for Crimeans to obtain Schengen visas. The European Council decided that the EU visa will be issued to residents of Crimea only in embassies/consulates located on the territory of Ukraine and only into Ukrainian passports as the EU does not recognize the annexation of Crimea."
