The Painted Bird - Film in Interslavic Language
« on: November 05, 2020, 08:48:29 PM »
I watched the film The Painted Bird on Hulu.

It is worthy of mention because the film used the Interslavic language, something new to me.  I recognized only a few Russian words, including some curse words.  The non-English language was not distracting because the script has few lines and the acting resembled silent films.   A couple of American actors in key roles.

The plot is about a young Jewish boy encountering much darkness, violence, inhumanity  and suffering as he makes his way home in search of his family in WW II.   It seems the boy symbolizes what the innocent human race had to experience in war and somehow ultimately survived.  I would classify it as a art film with much symbolism and some impressive B&W cinematography.   Some scenes are simply too brutal.

RUSSIAN PANDEMIC SURVIVAL DRAMA- TO THE LAKE

This Netflix series is filmed in Russia and in Russian language.  100%-83% Rotten Tomatoes.

Well known Russian actors.  Thrilling, with some disturbing scenes.  Also glimpses into the layers of Russian life from the wealthy to villagers.

Only on TV could so few face so many difficult challenges as they seek to escape and survive a horrendous pandemic.
