If you need what the Ruskies are sending, ACCEPT IT..

I'm guessing you don't like the Cinese givt either, but a lot of electronics in your house is from China.

The way I see it, a Russian refusing to accept aid from America in any time of need would be just as short sighted.

I am totally against our acceptance of this stuff.

Right now Trump is all about saving American lives regardless of where the help comes from. If your family member needed help and the only supplies available was from Russia, you should accept it. Of course after the junk Russia sent Italy, I doubt we'd be getting better stuff.

Based off Krimster's post in the other thread, some of those ladies may be GRU agents and they'll be infecting America.

When Putin sent supplies to Italy, he had the "From Russia with Love" stickers on products. Did he put some of those stickers on the supplies he sent to America?

Wife's cousin who lives in Italy told her this about when Russia sent supplies to Italy.

The supplies were for North Italy which was hardest hit by Corona and there were plenty of nearby airports.

But Russian planes landed far to the south, then Russian trucks with banners posted on them drove the length of Italy up to the North.

Pretty disgusting, but still a good idea Putin had.  He is a master at this.

Note:  I am just posting off the top of my head as to what I remember wife telling me back a couple of weeks ago.

Sandro, BC and others can correct as to exactly where the Russian planes landed, etc.

The planes landed in at Pratica di Mare military base near Rome.  If you go to the youtube page of the video below, it would say that in the description. If you read the comments, many commenters are calling Russia true friends and criticizing Western European nations. I'm sure the "From Russia with Love" stickers in ENGLISH helped convince some people the world Putin is a caring man. Propaganda works.

Also notice in the video the Italian Foreign Minister and other government officials are not properly wearing their masks. When he pulls down his mask to talk in front of a  mic, he lets the outside of the mask touch his face. Doesn't he have access to professionals that can educate him on how to wear a mask? If any of you have a mask with a metal strip that goes over the nose, push down on it so the metal strip forces the mask to conform over your nose for a good seal otherwise air would just go around the mask. Most videos I've seen of people wearing masks, they don't wear the masks properly. They just put it on but they don't fit it to their face.

The planes landed in at Pratica di Mare military base near Rome.
That's right. Then Russian convoy made a 650 km march to the north of Italy.
1. The landing base was provided by Italian MoD as the largest one to accept in short time a group of  heavy cargo airplanes.
2. The final destination for Russian medical force was assigned by Italian authorities  after they have evaluated the potential of Russians to fight coronavirus. The worst-hit northern region Bergamo was chosen.

You have got to be joking !!

Everyone, even you and I, knew the supplies were needed in the north of Italy from day 1.

We knew  :-\. But the decision where to direct aid could be made  only by Italian officials, they know the problem better than anyone else. For example, Ukrainian team of 20 medics was assigned to work in central Italy.

You are excused for your lack of knowledge of Italian geography, Bergamo IS in northern Italy, some 60 Km NE of Milan, and is now in a worse shape than here, hence deemed more in need of Russian help.

How? This statement of yours is clear enough ::)
Everyone, even you and I, knew the supplies were needed in the north of Italy from day 1.
Apparently you are disappointed about Russian help not reaching its proper destination - as indeed it did.

Maybe Belvis's "Then Russian convoy made a 650 km march to the north of Italy." misled you.

The Russian planes landed at Pratica di Mare, a military airport some 35 Km south of Rome, hence the 650 Km trek northwards to Bergamo.

It may have something to do with which airports could handle the heavy cargo planes.

Or perhaps the Italians have heard a story about a Trojan horse.

The landing strip at Pratica di Mare is 2,542 mt. (8,340') long. Being an IAF airbase, its security is also higher than in normal commercial airports.

I checked Google maps and used the scale. The airport at Milan has a runway around 13,000 feet long. As far as security goes, I don't think the Russian planes were hauling classified material and who in their right mind would blow up a plane full of medical supplies?

Or perhaps the Italians have heard a story about a Trojan horse.

An A380 was parked at Milan's airport. They can handle large heavy planes. I doubt the Russian cargo plane was at full compacity since it was hauling people and medical supplies instead of armored vehicles.

Alright, I meant HEALTH security :-\. It would not have been courteous to get the Russian health staff infected when they reached us, now would it?

The Italian officials who met the Russians at Pratica di Mare probably got screened to see if they had the virus. The same officials could've drove up to Milan and get screened to meet the Russians in Milan.

I doubt the American government would fly Medical supplies urgently needed by NY into Pennsylvania and then have it driven to NY. If that happened, it'll be all over the news talking about Trump's incompetence.  I'm surprised Italian citizens haven't questioned the judgement of their government on why the supplies were sent far away from the action.

Billy,

Rome is an excellent staging area and makes total sense as Sandro indicated.  It is outside of the hotspot, allows officials (seated in Rome) to review their capabilities, plan and brief for deployment and coordinate with local authorities in the chosen destination area. The majority of Italy, north, south, east and west can be reached within a days drive. Even the islands can be reached by ferry from Rome if that was deemed necessary.  The fact they were sent into the hottest of hotspots says a lot regarding their capabilities and I am sure their help is appreciated.

Is there some PR value for China and Russia to assist?  Sure, why not.

Did he make that statement after it was criticized the supplies wasn't shipped to where it was needed most? Is his statement on record with the date he made the statement?

Russian plane flies supplies into NY JFK airport. That's how it's supposed to be done. If Trump or someone from his administration directed the plane to land 650km from NY city, the media would hammer him for being incompetent.

Are all the experts in Rome? There's no experts where they are needed most in Northern Italy? There should be experts in Northern Italy that know which hospitals need certain supplies the most better than the guys down in Rome.
