Hope all are doing well here.

Just wanted to pop in for a moment and let you all know we are celebrating our 10th anniversary today.

While it has, and in some ways still is, an up and down ride it has been a wonderful journey. Elena still misses family and country at times and Sergei (now 14) is a full blown teenager with all of the associated attitudes and eye rolling that comes with that age. He's done extremely well in school (4.0 GPA for many years now) and is participating in his high schools marching band.

In case it helps for anyone having struggles along the way: it is well worth the work and changes involved. Well worth it!

Good luck to all!

Ken

Congratulations.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

It is splendid to hear from you Ken.  And congratulations to you and your fine family.  You obviously have been a good parent and mentor to Sergei.

I recall your advice 8 years ago:  Learn to say repeatedly, "Yes dear, you are correct."    :) :) ;) ;) :D :D ;D ;D

Ken, first off congratulations on the milestone.  I am sure many more happy years lie in the future.  Being the parent of a teenager is always challenging but with the wonderful parents Sergei has I am sure both he and the two of you will survive it.  It has been a long time since I visited you, Elena and Sergei when you were up in Madison but I also remember being very impressed with what a nice family the three of you made and what a loving home Sergei had to grow up in. I am sure you will all survive his teen age years fine.  Time does fly.  We just passed the 7 year mark ourselves a few weeks ago.

Don't be such a stranger.  I have always thought of you as one of the wiser past members of RWD.  Your posts were always the voice of reason and insight in what is sometimes not all that overflowing with those qualities.  It was great to hear from you and I am sure we are all thrilled that you are doing well.

Thanks much Ray! And Congratulations to you and Iren on 7 years!

Not so sure about that "voice of reason" stuff. I'd say I was getting pretty frustrated with folks towards the end there.

Hello Sandro!

I may pop in from time to time but will not be a regular here any time soon.

Warning: You're still on our bucket list of people to visit if we can ever get a chance to take a real vacation! Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you want to keep your stuff packed to make a quick getaway...

Thanks PG! It probably took him 3 months or so to be fluent in cartoon network then another few months at kindergarten to work out the kinks of switching languages mid sentence. Now the relatives tell him he speaks Russian with an American accent!

Elena still speaks mostly Russian to him but he's lazy about keeping up with it. Taking French in school doesn't help it either as any studying he does is for school and not to speak with the family back in Omsk.

There isnt a freshers year for second year. Freshers is only for first years, but some unis allow second/third years to go along if there are tickets floating about.

This topic is about a member's 10-year marriage anniversary - what makes you think that it concerns universities, freshmen, sophomores, etc. ::)?
