State Council vs. Presidency in Russia
« on: March 01, 2020, 02:47:03 PM »
V.V. Putin is attempting to secure power into the future when his term of office expires in 2024.   Prior to that term expiring, Putin is seeking to increase the power and authority of the State Council, a body that he already heads as President.

Changes to the Russian constitution would yield power to the State Council in matters of determining foreign policy and create executive action for many other powers currently held by various different facets of the government.   In essence, Putin would be forming a new Politburo with himself at the head as his term of office expires in 2024.  The State Council would be the power behind the power.   Obviously, there is a large segment of Russia that does not agree with such changes.

The State Council would be the power behind the power.

Isn't this how the Democrats decide their nominees?

The segment of Russia that possesses guns agree with the changes.
