"given some more pieces to fill in"

the OP has left out a significant amount of information, much more than the few paltry few details he gave us.
I think he left out a lot about himself...
the problem is not with the woman, it's with him
but he doesn't get it
totally blind....

he's probably at church this morning wondering about what brand of corn to get for her....

in the land of the blind,
the one eyed man can be king...

She has been and gone.

I was able to show her the ocean for the first time.  She liked the State and told me when I took her to the airport that the State is like a post card.

We were so busy and did so many things I forgot to pay attention to what other men thought of her.

I will say a couple of things surprised me.  One thing she really liked was going to an antique store.  The other big surprise was when I made some blueberry pancakes and put out the maple syrup for it.  I watched as she got up and went to the fridge to get the sour cream to eat them with.

All in all, I had fun, she and her son had fun.  I look forward to visiting them in Russia next summer.

I hope you enjoy the return trip - I'm guessing their can't be any hope of more than friendship as a year is a long time to wait

You seem incredibly patient and would LOVE to be proved wrong ...  :)

Thanks for the update Pkeel1. If you think there's something there, hopefully you can get to Russia sooner.

Clams are mandatory, and in substantial amounts, in spaghetti or linguine alle vongole ;):

Personally, I prefer them in bianco, i.e. without tomato sauce overwhelming their delicate flavour.

+1 for bianco or at most a few tomatoes sautéed separately

Problem in the US and maybe Canada is that the very small vongole we use here are very difficult to find, maybe even verboten... so very few, much larger clams that are available will even fit in a plate of linguine...  One normal sized clam in the US can be the size of a dozen or more typical vongole here.

oh man those look good
when I lived on the east coast of the US, used to go "beach clamming" late Sept/early Oct - perfect weather
one season got a half bushel in no time, I speculate that like everything else, the clam supply isn't like it once was
I thought I saw people in the lagoon(?) outside of Venice doing this, wasn't close enough to see the nature of their harvest

She would not eat the clams or the lobster.

She is primarily a vegetarian.  She ate a lot of salad and promised to make me 8 salads a day when I go to see her.

Seeing food alive before eating it just wasn't something she was able to do.

I eat an oyster and I feel the contact
But more than one would be a waste

In fact a freshly schucked Oyster is alive you can see it contract when you put lemon juice on it.

i'm THE "clam eater" without peer gentleman
oh sorry, you're STILL talking about seafood....

did you ever get a "pea crab" in your oyster?
I did a few months ago, it was still alive to, daughter put it in her salt water tank with the clown fish, it survived for quite awhile
never saw one before, had no idea what it was

It depends on the time of the year. If it was April/May or October/November they would be searching for moleche (Carcinus aestuarii), crabs shedding their hard shell thus becoming soft:

no, for some reason I WANT the food porn now...
look you guys, I have a Russian wife whom I love dearly
but she cooks Russian food, ya feel me...
I tried dating Italian women, but good God mann, when they get angry
it's like Mt. Vesuvius, and I'm some guy in Pompeii that future archeologists will make a body cast of and stick in a museum and charge rubes 5 euros to look at
did you see the one with his "you know what" plainly visible
for sure, that would've been me
imagine if that was your fate
bunch of tourists checking out your "johnson" every day
there ARE worse things than death...

krimster,

Pompeii does strange things to people..  been there a dozen or so times and now watch the people more.

As far as your mr johnson is concerned yeah maybe a giggle or two from non EU folks but what really makes most say 'oh my gosh.. that's sad..' are the casts of the dogs.

Myself included.

yes, or the mother with her child

I have weird experiences in these kind of places
I combine what my eyes see with what my imagination "sees" and I come up with a totally different experience from the rest of the tourists
Dachau was deeply traumatizing
apparently my reaction is not all that unique
they have docents who act as "comfort humans" when they see someone "in distress"
happened to me in Jerusalem, they have a special psychiatric ward to treat tourists, it's almost always Americans...
we've been too sheltered...

For people that wonder about why I said she is not a candidate as a partner...

A few days after my last post she asked me a question about English Grammar.

I responded and she disagreed with my response.  She studied English and has been an English teacher in Russia for many years.  Because I disagreed with her, I am a liar, slippery, an idiot, and purposely trying to hurt her.  We have barely talked for about a month.  This is the third time we have ceased correspondence in three years.

Eventually, we will go back to being penpals, if past is prologue.

But there is no way I would ever put up with this kind of behavior in a partner.

Just a guess, the difference of opinion are grammar usage and syntax. I suspect you answered from the People's standpoint and she was looking for a response that represents the Queen's English. Her response was over the top. Fortunately most of us understand* the other on RWD no matter which body of water we are near.

And yes Moby is correct, you have conducted your self as a gentleman.

My observation with a lot of this stuff-- somehow the translation makes it much harsher. My long term ex and I argued about that often-- and I think it caused arguments ! It needs 2 way tolerance to avoid misunderstandings.
SLAVA UKRAYINI  ! HEROYAM SLAVA!!!!
Слава Украине! Слава героям слава!Слава Україні! Слава героям!
translated as: Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!!!  is a Ukrainian greeting slogan being used now all over Ukraine to signify support for a free independent Ukraine
