Are you taking vacation time? Her flight will probably get to Chicago in late evening, but early morning for her. She probably won't sleep on the flight.

My fiancée is arriving tomorrow evening at Chicago O'Hare and I was curious if anyone knew about how long it takes to get through non-citizen immigration and customs there. With flights I've had to Chicago from overseas I'm usually in and out in about 45 minutes, but for someone arriving on a K1 visa I wasn't sure how long the procedure takes. I noticed on my last trip they now have a semi-automated customs procedure where you declare your items on a computer terminal & it seemed to cut down the time a bit.

Yes, she was on a LOT flight. She tells me everything was fine except something weird about the meals.

On a different note, after 3 days, she's finally stopped cleaning!

We did end up driving home from O'Hare (not much fun for me, but she slept most of the way), but she wanted to get home ASAP!

I'm thinking I'll just call her before her flight tomorrow and ask her (she won't be shy to tell me what she wants to do). I've been to Chicago many times and can think of places she would enjoy seeing, however, Doll you may be right that she might just want to make a beeline to the house! If that's the case, I'll just toss a blanket & pillow in the car and let her snooze on the way home.

 My wife arrived in Ohare, it took about an hour to process thru immigration.
the time will really depend on the volume of flights into terminal 5.

yes the parking lot (short term) for terminal 5 is tricky to find.

it is right at term 5,but if you go thru the normal terminals/roadway/and their associated parking lot exits..,,you would play ** getting to it,, odd but true.
its far easier to access at an exit for it prior to entering the normal  terminal 1 thru 5 *loop*

 but the sign for that is mixed in with so many other things its hard to spot... i wish i could clarify this,, ill see if i can find some better descriptions or info.but the reality is IF you see the sign before entering the loop. youll think *what are they talking about, you just turn in and its right there*..lol if you dont see the sign,,youll end up on the terminal *loop*
wondering where the heck international terminal 5  short term parking is.
and keep looping around and round in vain..lol

i know where it is,and have been exasperated enough after missing the exit, and caught on the term  loop ,to just park in term 3 parking and take the train/tram
 

as far as getting a hotel room,,get your fiancee's input?
in our case.. my wife most certainly would rather drive to her new *home*,even a few hours away,,
as yes she would rather see it ,and stay and rest well into the next day in peace, than play tourist at that time.
knowing we can always see the  city any time when rested .no she dint  pay much attention to any detail of the house ,or look for anything wrong..its not her personality in general to do so..she,just wanted to rest,quite understandably ..as the flight had been delayed in warsaw and she had to stay overnight there unexpectedly.


Hey, your fiancee may very well prefer to see the city though, so why not ask?
but i would keep in mind  by the time you screwed around with traffic in chi town and checking into anything downtown , near the fun touristy stuff, you'd be more than half way home.

We live an hour south of downtown.. so about 2 hours from ohare since its northwest suburbs.(dependent on traffic)

I'm sure you did some cleaning prior to her arrival. It goes to show you how bad us men are at cleaning, especially if it takes a lady 3 days to do what we overlooked. She'll probably want to go shopping to decorate the house to make it cozy. Good sign she's going to adapt well to her new home.

The amount of time a second person spends in cleaning is not necessarily a valid reflection on the cleaning that a first person does.

Some people just want to go over everything, even if not needed.

For instance, I want every eating plate, bowel, pans, silverware, etc., washed in the units we rent on vacations, etc.  Doesn't matter how clean they look or any words a person uses to describe how hard they worked on cleaning the items previously.

Wow! The past few days have been a blur! We were married Friday afternoon in a civil ceremony by my brother who happens to be a judge. It didn't make any sense to wait, we've know each other a very long time and I wanted to get her on my health insurance plan as soon as possible. K1 visa is not supposed to be a "take it for a spin" and see how you like it sort of deal. Still want to have an Orthodox ceremony after we've had time to visit some of the local Orthodox churches and talk to the priests - that'll take some planning though.

Doll, I suggested sightseeing after she had had a good night's rest in a Chicago hotel - I was NOT suggesting that they go straight from the airport to the top of the Willis Tower!

The first 2-3 weeks you're on a jet lag.
The best thing is to go "home".
